Did you know that there were railways in Cyprus once? I took these pics of a static loco at a little park in Guzelyurt last August.

But try the link here, its a shame they got rid of it, most of it was in the north. Imagine a fast link from Ercan Airport to Famagusta, Guzleyurt, Lefkosa and if the Brits had blasted a tunnel under the mountains, maybe to Girne.

Interesting photos Lem. I may be wrong but I think that the railway was mainly to service the copper mines in Cyprus.

I'm hoping to 'retire' from the railways soon, and spend more time in TRNC.

I don't want to see another train again!

You are probably right AJ. This link mentions passengers but it looks as though the Cypriots didn't have that love affair with trains that the Brits did.

Well you certainly won't hear one thats for sure. And you will only see the last remaining few if you hunt them out so I think you are safe.

Take care

You forgot the one you see every time you travel to Lefkosa!!!!!!!

Being serious though, for the one with right sort of money what a superb project there could be with a museum of the copper industry linked to rail way. There are all the rusting hulks on way to Lefke that could be revived. I am sure money would have been better spent on that than the white elephant water park near the Little Yellow Train.

i think this thread should now be closed,as it would seem to have run its length of track, and come to a full stop on the buffers, and as no passengers are getting on, apart from one this thread serves no purpose.
