Hi from the BBC news site

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7837145.stm

"games" now being played..

1/ TR plays it's "energy hand" with a threat to withdraw support for an alternative pipeline route..

2/ the EU frustrated by lack of progress and TR's insistence that more in done to end TC isolation

3/ EU want TR to open up ports / airspace to RoC ships / planes in accordance with an agreement TR has signed.. but won't implement because of point 2/

Ever decreasing circles...:(

*I* WANT TR in the EU, but who will "blink" ?

As always for any agreement to be successfull there must be intention to give and take by both parties.

( Ver gülüm, al gülüm. ) as they say.

The question that needs answering is:

Does EU need Turkey more than Turkey needs EU?

Hi "TRNC"Vaughan,

a good question.. and perhaps with less domestic distractions we might see a development, either way, this year.

The crunch point- as always- is Cyprus ..

The crunch point as ive always seen it is what the Greek Cypriot church want (all and now).

So goodbye Turkey in the EU, and goodbye to the solving of the Cyprus problem.

But the church does not have a seat in the EU or the UN for that matter, so the point being made is totally irrelevant. The bishops may have a domestic voice but no more than that.

The church in RoC has too much influence over politicians and voters alike. Thank God (?) for the secular state we live in.

the guy said that turkey was not open to the greek cypriots.

instead of explaining that it was greek cypriot ships and planes which turkey wasn't open to.

Dear "TRNC"Vaughan

Yes, the Church has had an influence .. but like the RC Church in Eire, it is now showing the signs of dwindling.

However, as has been pointed out.. the path of TR to the EU is now up to TR and other EU members..

The Roc, if it EVER used the veto, would lose all "cred" and a way would be found to give special status to TCs..and a move to remove the power of Veto would pass through the EU - even if Greece tried to delay it.
