Do not touch the Bar, they will Rip you Arse off. It is cheaper to Drink Locally. Plenty of Bars & Restauarnts near by. They Charged us 15 ytl for a glass of Wine.

Blimey, If you think 6 pound for wine is expensive in 5 star hotels you should visit others and then you will see.

I went to the Malpas and think it is a great hotel with really nice bar, at last N Cyprus has got a hotel of full international standards i say. Being 5 star you are not going to pay a couple of quid for a drink in any country

!5 YTL is a lot for one glass but if the wine is very good then maybe that's the going rate... but if it was just a poor quality wine (why are they serving it in a 5 star hotel anyway?) then that's a rip off...

Was it a big glass?

i.e. if as a 5 star hotel they only stock high quality wines then you expect to pay more..

I would not pay 15 YTL for a glass wine that costs 7 - 9 YTL for the bottle if you buy it locally... as the hotel will get it at a large discount too.

Three times the unit cost is the norm in London (high class restaurants and hotels)

I have to say that one of the things that lets down a lot of establishments here is the poor choice of wines... why anyone who runs a hotel or restaurant sells Aphrodite or Othello wines is beyond me.. when, for only a small amount more, you can get some really rather pleasant wines.

Rather than tell somebody not to drink somewhere just politely warn them that as a 5* hotel the prices can be a bit steep. If you had paid say a million quid to build an outstanding bar which people appreciate, then you have to charge more for a nice glass of wine than the guy with a hut and plastic chairs and a glass of plonk. Conversley I would appreciate knowing if a bar sells only lager and has a 6ft screen showing football every night which lots of people quite reasonably want, but not me.

I concur with messages 15/16/17 and with what Izzet says, my family go there for many meals and we have a superb time, we do not wish to sit in bars all the time and quaff cheap ale, there is a place for everything and for a facility like that in London think on

We stayed for a week at the malpas and a week at the mercure in April. The drinks are much the same in price. we used to have a bottle with our meal which was very resonable then finish the evening back at the hotel for a couple. over all still good value and staying at two brill 5* hotels.

If you think that is expensive for drinks dont go to Dubai

Same as anywhere elivs, Dubai can be cheap even in 5 star hotels, Women can drink free champagne all night, in happy hours blokes can drink beer etc for a couple of pounds a pint.

My boyfriend and I (fiance now actually!!) will be staying at The Malpas in September when we take possession of our villa at Sweetwater Bay - What we do find however is that 5* away from European destinations really equates to being around the 3 to 4* mark, with India being the exception. I'm sure it will be lovely and I'm sure that the service will be great (we've never ever had bad service whether eating at a local cafe or indeed a "5* hotel" whilst staying in TRNC) - so watch this space and I'll report back in due course. Drinks and food will, of course, always be more expensive when staying at these establishments, what do you expect???

Hi

I can confirm we stayed in the Malpass last December. The service was fantastic. The breakfasts were also first class. Couldn't fault it. Drinks yes expensive but thats expected in any 5 star hotel. Would not hesitate staying their again. No pleasing some folk
