Hi,

I am coming out on 4/2 to build some cupboards in my villa and would appreciate advice on where to buy the materials from. I also would like to buy the Bamboo type covers to put over the patio area. I am in the Bahceli/Esentepe area if anyone can help me.

Thanks

Hi,

We live in Tatlisu and we have just used these bamboo sheets to cover our pergoda to give us shade. We did get our in Bahceli, at 50 YTL per sheet, but have found them now in Girne for 35 YTL per sheet including delivery and my mum has just had hers from them. They were reliable too!

When you are here, let me know and I will give you directions as not sure of the shop name but will find out on Saturday for you.

Thanks Jayne, One of my neighbours said he got his from Girne but had tried yesterday for me and they were out of stock (seasonal thing). Perhaps it's a different shop though. I will be setting of from here early on Saturday morning so won't be able to get in touch after that. If you could give me directions it would be great .

I will ask my husband tonight as he may remember the name and come back to you. I only go to Girne on a Saturday as I work in the week but will try and find out what I can for you.

Hi Pearlbayer,

Just a word of caution, my neighbour and me put the bamboo on our pergolas in June 2008. It was put on with a staple gun, first winds of the autumn, just lifted it off. We are in the Esentepe coast road area. Make certain you either

tie it on with plastic cable ties or you batten it down with strips of wood from the top. I will have to re do mine, so if you find a supplier of the bamboo or willow, could you please let me know, as we bought ours from the south and I would certainly prefer to buy in the North.

I really agree with Butlers Wife. Our roof was nailed on then we put wooden battens on top to hold it down in place, and fingers crossed, so far so good. But the winds do get really bad and it will be interesting to see if we still have our roof in place by spring!

I got my pergola done in bamboo last year by a local firm and

they did a good job. Haven't blown off so far tho. I see the canvas

ones do get ripped with the winds.

The builders merchants for wood, is in Girne, opposite the entrance to the main carpark, as you are driving from Karakum side it will be on your left, 2 big double doors. Take your saw with you if you need to get it in your car as they wont cut it!!

Sonul up in Esentepe will cut, dry, straighten and tie local bamboo onto your structure that either he will put up for you or on your own construction.

It will be wired and secured so that it will withstand even the windiest Esentepe gusts that frequent our local.

Up through the village, right at the top, past the football pitch on your right and his bar/"garden" centre is on the right opposite an open area where you can park.

Keep the money local and you get a great service.

Hi Simon,

It was Sonul up in Esentepe who did our pergolas on Forest Golf & Beach. He put the pergola up and the bamboo. It didn't last 4 months.

Hi Gates,

What would you recommend to cover pergola? If you have any ideas, I would be interested.

Hippo's has lasted five years and now just showing signs of wear , just a tip when we renew ours we will leave the old insert a sheet of viscuine between and put new on top makes it waterproofish handy for washing on rainy day.
