Harry Redknapp gets my vote.

He has done a fantastic job at Portsmouth, getting us promoted to the top flight, saving us from relegation on his return and now keeping us in a euro qualifying spot.

hi guys

vr dude redknapp mite have done a good at portsmouth with filling your team with 7 african players what is he going to do when the african nations cup starts!!!!

and was it not all you portsmouth fans wanted to kill him after he defected over to your nearest rivals southampton!!!! lol

ok if we are talking older managers it has to be bill nicholson - bob paisley -brian clough - bobby robson (especially what he achevied in europe with psv-porto- barcelona)

to tell you the truth there are many english managers in the modern game but in my view none of them have fully acheived anything honour wise

to tell you the truth the scotish managers lead the way

alex fergurson - george graham - kenny daglish - david moyes - gordon strachan

Has to be Bobby Robson. Or maybe even Roy Hodgson who has managed all over Europe.

I would think the answer would have to be "old big ed" himself brian clough, surprised that you never mentioned burkinshaw at tottenham though erkan,he was a damn good manager.

Congatulations to the English F.A. for selecting the Italian Cappello. Who according to the papers cannot speak a word of English. Now the players will be even more confused?.

Confused myself

hi guys

paul i was thinking about keith burkinshaw and he was our best manager since bill and pron would have been greater than him if that excuse for a chairman irving schollar did not stick his nose into the managers affairs

brian clough what a manger what he achevied at derby was nothing short of a miracle with his star player the great tottenham legend dave mackay won the league in his second season and reached the semi finals of the european cup, then went on to nottingham forest wining 2 doubles over liverpool for the cup and league and winning the european cup twice and reaching a third final but losing out to wolves (i have read his book)

so prob for me he is the daddy of all english managers

i have mixed feelings on cappello's appointment their is no doubt he is a quality club manager what he has acheived at ac millan-roma-jeuventus-real madrid he has not managed a national side and he has not been asked by italy to coach them because he is to outspoken remember this is the guy who publically critised david beckham and did not play him until public preasure and then becks showed what a player he is can you imagine him doing that to a england player in his worse than broken english about wearing the england shirt with pride i dont think so!!!!!

also im dissapointed also with the fa in not chossing at least a few english backroom coaches like adams (doing a good job at pompey) - stuart peace (doing a good job under 21's) - paul ince (mkdons) - dennis wise (leeds)-

alan shearer who all wore the three lions with pride and groom these players into eventual national manager's because this oppointment is only a short term fix in my view but i hope im proven wrong

sorry for the long post

some valid points there mate, how shearer could even come into the running though is beyond me,he has no experience as a coach,so i think we would be clutching at straws there.Dont get me wrong i think he was a fabulous player, but so were bryan robson, trevor francis frannie lee etc, etc.the only english person that i would have given the job to would have to be stuart pearce whom i admire immenseley, and i think he was ***t on at man city.he should be made assistant coach for england but personally i cannot see it happening as i think capello will want his own right hand man.what a state our national game is in and i do honestly believe its money related and strongly believe that when you play for the england football team you should play for free or at least donate your wage to the youth infrastructure of the country.

Sorry for the rant guys but i am very passionate about my national team and its been a long week,

Paul.

hi paul

i agree with you on shearer he has no coaching experiance even thou he going for his coaching badges, and im saying to be groomed as a future coach not right now, to tell you the truth stuart pearce should stay where he is because he is his own man and cant see him working under the itai, and he is doing a terrific job at the under 21's

maybe bring in david platt he knows the game and what it is like to play for the three lions, i know for sure cappello will bring his own staff defo his no 2 cos hıs no2 has followed him everywhere from his early days at milan exactly like todd gripp with sven, i was reading about his pay package if they qualify for the next world cup and do well he will be the highest ever paid manager in football history around the world but still he is around 4-5 million a year i wonder if he gets a bonous for learning english quickly lol

also i have read most if not all players who play for the national team donate their money to good causes to tell you the truth mate the youth infrastructure for sports and should be footed by the government or by the association's regarding that sport

he was mate

but you saying that venerballs had another crack under the mclaren regime and dont forget him in turn was under the sven regime

it does not make any difference cappello has got 4 of his backroom staff coming with him well thats what it says in the media and if a young english coach comes in it would be just for pr

do you know what mate ive come up with a new system for the fa to run the national team not sure this will work but tell me what you think

firstly the f.a retain the services of all the top british coaches i.e goalkeeping coaches-defense coaches set piece etc etc which is overseen under a committee of lets say top 10 managers of the premire league and lets say every year one manager gets elected to be the head coach and have the final say in the commitee but this should not conflict with the league and their team duties so to eliminate this you have you introduce a winter break like other countries and have international comps in the winter break and summer

I understand were you are coming from on this, but it would take a hell of alot of organising, and everyone would be on a wage so therefore it would cost a fortune. As for a winter break im not sure.Look at the summer break, the season finishes in may if we are involved in world or european national cups then the players have a week off and then report for national duty.If there is no natinal duty then they take their break but by the beginning of july they are playing friendlies, sometimes at the other side of the world.

English top flight footballers play two many games in a season and untill something is done about that we might as wel p*** in the wind.

also id like to pay tribute to keith burkinshaw who yesterday stepped down as no2 at watford due to family illness reasons this is prob the last time we see him in any coaching capacity and was also a great tottenham manager in the late 70's and early 80's

Thats ironic as we were only talking about him yesterday.Seems a really genuine guy,is he a yorkshiremen.Still think that he would have taken spurs on to greater things if he had stayed.

When people talk about great managers it often makes me wonder about the lower leagues. I have as we all have seen premiership managers drop into the lower leagues and really struggle. The most recent one being Bryan Robson. Yet the man at Crewe was in charge for years and years and to get a club as small as them into the Championship was an excellent achievement. So is the best manager the man who wins the most trophies at a big club or a manager who makes a successful club out of a team like Crewe. For example if the Chelsea manager wins the Champions Cup is he a great manager or very fortunate to take over a superb squad of players. Thats the beauty of football its all about opinions. My choice would be Brian Clough starting off at Hartlepool and working his way to the top by taken two small clubs to massive achievements. I just wish he retired a little earlier, perhaps after the Cup Final against Spurs.
