Electrical goods are generally more expensive in TRNC than the UK especially the smaller items like kettles, toasters and lighting (shades, table lamps, ceiling lamps etc). Television, unless its a relatively new one then buy out here because you'll need to have it modified. Larger electrical goods, washing machine, tumble dryers (yes believe it or not you'll probably need it for the few days during the winter when its impossible to dry denim and towels), cookers buy here. Refrigeration definitely needs to be bought out here because they are made to cope with the tropical heat and the ones in the UK are not.

We bought most of our furniture out here and each time we can out we packed out suitcases with everything that wasn't readily available. Saying that most things can now be bought in the shops over here.

If you haven't got enough to fill a container you can send out just a crate. Most Companies will quote you for one and all they do is if there's enough room in someone's container they'll put your crate in. If you do crate/container it over then make sure you find out first of all what'll have import duty charged on and what will not.

Hope this helps.

Yes white goods are more expensive. We bought over a microwave, kettle, toaster and iron and saved quite a bit. Other furniture is quite reasonable - you need to weigh up what you pay for a container whether its worth it or if you can kick your new home out with brand new furniture for less!

Furnishing is not just an issue of quality -- it is also an issue of taste. And if you have children then you must worry about wear and tear. There are no abolutes.

Good luck.

Hi,

I have purchased at Crystal Bay Marina B4 M and like a lot of you was surprised at the speed of the development, I also thought that the final payment wasn't due until May 2009 but have been asked to make payment at the end of January. I was offered air con but have decided to wait until I get out there and have a look around, if anyone knows anyone who has fitted air con I would be glad for any info.I have read through some of the messages re furniture and it sounds as thoughit is better to by you own as opposed to any packages is this the case. I am very new to this and would appreciate any sound advice about anything to do with CBMarina and look forward to any replys.Brino

Hi bruno, we have been looking at many removal firms to ship our goods over, and we feel it would be better if not cheaper to buy in the north. We have had quotes ranging up to £5,000, and im sure you could kit your abode out for less, i intend to fit our own a/c when i get out to nc, when are you thinking about going over.
