The start of this years festival will be 15 May to 24 May, it has been brought forward to enable us to incorporate Childrens Day on the 19 May as we wish to bring children from other countries to th e Festival.

We have also had applications from 24 different countries wishing to attend our festival from as far away as South America, a descisioin is yet to be made as what counties wie invite to attend as alot will depend on cost constraints.

If anyone with a SENSIBLE idea of what they might like to see at the festival could email me or post here I will pass this to the members of the committee for discussion. email is zerdalifestivali@live.com.

We also had an application from 30 strong pipe band including dancers which I hope will be feasble to bring over for the last 3 days of the festival but for me to achieve this I will be on the hunt for sponsors for this so any ideas would be good and once again email me.

I will keep you posted as things develope.

Dont shout Bertie

The Zerdali festival used to be celebrated in the village many years ago when the Apricot or zerdali were harvested, the village resurrected this festival last year and it was very successful but some events were not too well attended and there was some toothing troubles but the peeps enjoyed it lots there was a spear fishing thingy, lots of dancing shows and little craft market as well

Just to keep things up to date, we have had confirmation of the following countries so far who will be attending this years festival. Spain Italy Poland Turkey Litvania and Peru.

As I am sure that most people realise months of hard work goes into preparing this festival and that we are trying to make it one of the best on the island with very limited resources.

It is the support of the local businesses, villagers and Esentepe Council Mayor and his workers who contribute so much in time and effort that help make it worth while.

I hope that this year we will see more of the British residents and visitors attending.I hope to have the program finalised by the end of March and will publish it here.

Once again I say to you if you have any SENSIBLE ideas please feel free to let me know.

The spear fishing contest which was surprisingly popular is taking place again and if there are any people who want to compete let me have your names and I will pass them on to the Federation.

Hi,

We are out in Cyprus from 29th May-11 June and live on the coast Road just below Esentepe. Does anyone have a programme of events yet, as we would all like to visit at least twice.

Hi Peter

I had a video production company back in the UK, and would be happy to help capture some of the events taking part in th Zerdali festival.

John,

I don't think Peter Mercier is involved any longer, I don't even know if he's still on the island. I will try to find out who is involved and let you know... it sounds like a good idea.

The Zerdali Festival will be in it's third year (of the new era festivals) and the previous two have been great. Lot's of fun, music, food etc. The party atmosphere is really seductive and even the most recalcitrant child is soon enjoying the event...

I think it definitely needs to have a programme of events. I didn't see one last year. That way people can select which events they wish to support as well as not be disappointed by missing some too. Perhaps the programmes can be put up next to all the posters and at all the bus stops etc.

The huge wall at Greatstone Park would make a lovely place for a programme banner! lol

Are the events just in the evenings? Are they all held at the wedding ground or elsewhere?

Not sure if my apricots will be ripe enough in time but it would be a great idea if we could learn all the local recipes for apricots and that these could also be made up for sale and samples. Turkish/englsih recipe sheets could then also be sold.
