The Old and the New

Esentepe is not all new developments, however. The settlements of Esentepe were originally founded by Greek warriors returning from the Siege of Troy in ancient times, and the area grew in importance under the era of the Salamis kings. The present villages were established on the ruins of the original settlements, destroyed during the Arab invasion on the 800s. The village of Esentepe has always been famous for its wild apricots, and lies in the foothills of the Kyrenia Mountains, so you can walk out of the village into forests as easily as popping down to the beach. Esentepe village has a good range of shops, restaurants, doctor’s surgery, a post office, schools and even its own police station. The village even boasts its own football team and stadium!
