Has anyone any idea of the cost and where to get (and get fitted) the white sail coverings that I see around on some people's pergola's?

Hi Crystallady We decided against sailcloth for our pergola for two reasons. Removing it in windy conditions. Note Breezyboy because we are on Crytal Bay Breeze and i is--- breezy. Secondly having to take them down to clean them with all the dust blowing around.Glen from Glencoe is building us a pergola with a tiled roof with boarding underneath. Probably not much dearer when replacement sailcloth might be needed in the future.

We fitted our own canvas,, brought from uk. Dunelm sell it, approx 4 pound a metre. BUT...... ours only lasted 2 summers, last week it was reduced to shreds with hailstone and heavy rain. We didn't remove it for the winter so that didn't help. I know Burhan sell and fit it and also Curtain shop but not cheap.

We had our sailcloth expertly fitted at a good price by Yusef Telek who is the owner of Hay Hay Perde Dikim Evi Ltd. The shop is nearly opposite Mermaid fabrics, Karakum and next door to the petrol station. Yusef does not speak very good english but his daughter does. They visit, estimate and fit. We do not take ours down it has been up 2 winters and is as good as new. Many of our friends and neighbours have also used Yusef. Its difficult to give a price estimate but is comparable to a very good quality xlarge parasol. Tel 0392 8150491 or 0542 8517187. I think you'll be pleased. They also supply and fit awnings.

Message 2 I not certain of this but I heard that if you put a tiled roof on a pergola, when they come to value your house for KDV, they count the pergola as an additional room which bumps up the KDV.

Hello Enrico, They dont class a pergola in the garden as covered area in the villa when assessing your villa for tax. There is now available in the TRNC a quality sailcloth with a ten tear guarantee against rusting mildew staining etc the eyelets are welded and it does not rot, the price is more but you are getting a quality product, check out http://www.glencoecyprus.com forum for more info.

Thanks everyone. I am actually talking about the pergola which covers the patio area so I wouldn't want a tiled roof. I know where Hay Hay is but can someone give me a 'guesstimate' for supplying and fitting?

crystallady : message 11 I read somewhere that a Bougainvillia had grown through drainage pipes / gully drain. Just keep your eyes on the beautifull stuff, the roots could be expensive if this is the case. Does this plant need considerate planting around the house for this reason?? Anyone had experience of this? I would love some advice as its lovely in bloom.

Bougainvillia roots can be problematic. They shouldn't be planted any closer than 3.5m from pipes.

Hi Landp re msg 4... can you tell us how much they charged ? Usually they give a rough price per metre if you do not like disclosing price. I find when checking posts re pergola covers or furniture etc they often recommend various suppliers but never give a price or even a rough estimate to tempt me into looking at them further. I checked out Glencoe site as recommended above, lots of info but no mention of prices , even as a guide. Result... I just click off and visit somewhere else Regards Joseph
