Hi

My husband and I have just bought an apartment in Esentepe and have been in correspondence with an English couple who have lived near Kyrenia for four years. I have asked her the question about fully comprehensive insurance at the border and you can purchase this there or if the office for the insurance is closed you can get it in the High Street in Kyrenia. I have read a couple of messages with replies saying you can only get third party insurance and that's it but I am lead to believe this isn't true - can anyone advise if this has changed? thank you

I remember asking this question at the border to the two insurance companies who were serving at that moment, 4-5 months ago.

They stressed that they are only allowed to sell third party insurance.

When I asked them about the reason, they just said they can't do otherwise.

It does not make sense since insurance companies are a private sector.

I believe it is because of TRNC government, not wanting to insurance the cars from "South Cyprus" but only the third party (cars from TRNC in most cases).

Next time I cross the border, I'll ask them again.

Thanks very much for your response Izzet. I guess what they are saying is probably right so looks like we will just have to get a taxi and hire in the north. Dont want any misshaps with hire cars!!!
