A friend of mine attended a course in Paphos last week AED (heart resusitation) it was run by the European Resuscitation Course. About 50 medical people from Europe - they were asked to give their names and where they came from. She stated who she was and lived in Kyrenia. When the course was finished she passed collected her certificate and was talking to a couple of people when the Course Dirctor who is Chairman of Cyprus Branch of ERC came and asked her again where she was from - she again told him and he then said 'I hope you will never resusitate a Turk'. She told him he was completely out of order by saying that plus a few other things before she walked away. That is coming from an educated Greek Cypriot - just leave us as 2 separate states and do not try and impose Talat and his Greek Cypriot counterparts will on people who really know it cannot work.

Dear Rocking re msg 1 There is always a danger of "Chinese whispers" when quoting third parties and looking at your supporting a Taksimist - no solution is the solution party .. I wonder "why"... I'm not surprised you would post this.. Let's say it was true... you'll note the GC said *TURK* - GCs "surprise, surprise" have a "Thing" about Turks .... they came to bring "peace" and that resulted in 200K+ folk being ethnically cleansed, dying or being maimed over a six week period - the worst violence in living memory.. For sure the comment isn't funny - ignorant , even .... but TRY to put it in context... The GC was probably quite young when his family was uprooted, and the invasion made many previously pro rapproachment GCs quite "hard line" ... :( Your friend should write to the Director's organisation and request an apology. The proposals involve two autonomous regions as one state... I hardly think that is going to affect you..

Re msg 3/5, Britvic/ The-Wicks Whoops, didn't want to "upset" folk, but I believe Rocking should not attempt to make one hearsay remark of an ignorant Cypriot a case for permanent partition !

MM Why not? its as good a base as many have to hold their opinion. Seriously I wouldn't base my opinion of the views of an entire nation on the words of one person but it would still concern me greatly to hear them and would make me wonder what hope there was really for reunification. I long ago decided that que sera sera on this but it doesn't fill me with confidence Harold

This was not a hear say remark as mmmmm seems to suggest it was directed at my friend because she lives over in the North. Surely if you are in the medical field you are not goiong to worry what nationality the person is if you could save his or her life, and yes she has been in touch with the relevant people at the organisation.

Dear Rocking, re msg 8 If it is something your friend told you she heard and you tell us.. that is "HEARSAY".. 1/ I already said what you friend should do. 2/ If your posts didn't suggest such a pro non solution, solution stance and support for a "political party" that has the same agenda.. 3/ The actions of a possibly disenfranchised GC do not mean that Cypriots can't live together.

dt you are forgetting that the some of the expats on the north regard the north of Cyprus as a mini Turkey...and are not really interested in this island being unified for there own reasons... as mmmmmm has said "hearsay" by ONE person...

Juliet, It really is quite offensive the way you refer to ex-pats as though they are an inferior species, are you not in fact an ex pat yourself in that you married a Greek Cypriot but are British yourself. If your own attitude towards Turkish Cypriots is anything to go by it is to be hoped that there is not unification of the island, until you accept that there were wrongs on both sides then nothing can move forward.

hattikins my apologies if my post came out wrong, but you have to admit it is quite true that some some people don`t want to see the island reunified, as for my attitude towards tcs i have never had an attitude towards them, they are cypriots & deserve the same as any other cypriot on this island. again hearsay by rocking!!!

mmmmm please re-read what I wrote - it was my friend on the course and it was directed at her - she was not standing by and listening to the Director addressing someone else - he was talking to her - seems very clear to me.

Dear Spider. re msg 20 I understand one of your posts !!! "its seems that you treat life as one big court room" .. that's because it IS.. aren't YOU "judging" me , now ;) ? Didn't YOU jump in on a thread re a Russian "buying" ( how can he buy what isn't REALLY the vendors to sell?) and go off on one re disenfranchised Lithuanian's? ;) We are judged for job applications by strangers who look at our CVs / exam results... We are judged by perceived viewpoints / motivations ;) "do you not have good friends, that you trust their word, and even loved ones" WHAT has that got to do with the definition of HEARSAY ? ;) .. but YES - thanks for asking - I'm VERY happily part of a family unit and EVEN have long-term friends.. ;)

the best thing about a thread like this, and it applies equally to the sweetwater bay yarn about mysterious visitors, are the limitless possibilities opened-up for informed or other controversy: "the hurley-burley of the unending cyprus dispute as acted-out by non-cypriots" let's just say the projection of one's material interests, albeit heavily disguised, in pragmatic, altruistic or legalistic code, depending of course of on the "opinions" of that particular contributor who may variously hail from (I take the liberty of rephrasing john grierson) "the highlands and lowlands, over the green-line border and overseas" but even as I type this humble reality-check, a metaphorical shadow falls across my keyboard as simbas softly approaches, blue pencil grasped ready in her hand, about to close us all down at once for totally boring the pants off everyone

Message No:1 I was in Limmasol last week at a Rotary convention and when registering where we came from I put in Kyrenia, the guy in charge of registration replied "Oh your from the occupied part" my thoughts were you ignorant B**tard, I replied "well I guess we are from the occupied part as about 240,000 of us live there" and walked away. When you consider that Rotary is a non political organisation or supposed to be, this is totally out of order. Long may we remain two states.

msg36 may i ask why the guy is an ignorant B? he was only stating the truth, regardless of how many people live in the north of Cyprus it is still internationaly unrecognised & can be quite a shock to some people on the south as they are probaly wondering who`s land your house is on.....

carbotec, I am sad to say I have to agree with juliet this time in terms of international agreements and many pronouncements by the eu, north cyprus may be described as occupied territory even after these 35 years on the other hand the trnc is the north's government and it is recognised locally and by turkey since turkey is by far the dominant power in the region little is ever going to change in the forseeable future however there is bound to be a gradual acceptance of north cyprus, as it become clearer it is here for keeps despite the recognition niceties, both the republic of cyprus currently negociating with president talat and the european union's special unit for the turkish cypriots show that the apirations and problems of north cyprus are acknowledged lastly I wonder if you should come down so hard on the rotarian: he is just going along with the slant put on things by his local state

Hi dt, re msg 49 don't be too quick to judge all member the "same".. some folk own properties on TR / foreign pre 74 deeds that "should" be quite legal and "safe" ..some bought here without realising the implications, some are TCs who HAVE to live somewhere, some can't won't forgive, and some.. well these may be the folk you refer to... !
