Upon arrival at Ercan Airport, is it necessary for visitors to queue for a visa prior to going through immigration - as in Turkey? If I remember correctly Brits had to pay 10 Pounds Sterling and they wouldn’t accept local currency.

Cheers, Abby

I thought the visa stamp varied nowadays and you sometime only got a 7 day one depending on the mood of the day. If this does happen you can ask for an extended period of time though.

You now get a 30 day stamp in your passport but can get an 90 day extension if you go to immigration offices in most large towns ie.Girne,Nicosia etc.If you don't want your passport stamped you can obtain a form at passport control at Ercan.

Good luck,Bill

After all the commotion last year in the papers and on the Internet, 90 day visa stamps when arriving at Ercan were reinstated; no questions asked.

Travelling from South Cyprus to North Cyprus, it's still pot luck.

But if you travel from North Cyprus to South Cyprus with your entry visa being via Ercan, on your return to the North they give you 30 days, even though your entry visa at Ercan may have longer to run. Make sure that you use the Visa papers that you can fill in at the border to stamp you in and out. DON'T let them stamp your passport, as then their stamp becomes the valid visa stamp. If they do stamp you 30 days then just throw the piece of paper away.

Also if you have less than 30 days on your Ercan entry visa and they stamp you 30 days when coming to the North, if you subsequently leave through Ercan after your Ercan Visa Stamp expires they won't take the 30 day stamp form the South Border Control as valid, and you'LL be fined 64YTL a day for everyday your over, or if you return to the TRNC without paying it will be doubled and payment will be required before they let you in otherwise they will deport you as soon as possible, and it's not always to the same airport that you originally came from.

Thanks everyone for the information. My brother James will be flying in to Ercan but I'm coming via the south. As we are both only staying for 7 days hopefully neither of us should have to worry too much about how long the visa is for.

simbas:

I arrive at Larnaca on Friday 22 February, and James flies in to Ercan on Saturday 23 February. Unfortunately this trip will only be for one week, but we hope to pack as much into this week as we can. Expect to leave utterly exhausted, but with a good idea of what property is available for me to buy. To say I am excited is an understatement!!
