Anyone any ideas on the baggage weight allowance as I have 25kg on my reservation and 20kg on my e-ticket. I dont want to turn up at Stansted Airport and have to pay extra for being over 20kg

Sarniebarn - got caught out with this before. £7.00 per kilo!! If I were you, I'd try to double check. Inclined to go with weight shown on e-ticket, but I did hear this was not necessarily true!! Not much help I know, but we will certainly be checking again before our flight in June.

Just done it 25 kg both ways despite what ticket says and I did have 24 KG on return!. CTA stopped offering bottles of wine with meals, using plastic thimbles from a wine box, make sure you get 2 glasses.

To be honest I do not know about Stansted but at Gatwick and Heathrow they have always turned a blind eye to 5-10 kilos over the limit. If you have a problem always talk to the supervisor and you can normally get the excess cost's reduced.

20 kilo's suitcase weight and 5 kilo's for hand luggage.

you can get away with 25 in the suit case if you have no hand luggage.

The-wicks,

Sorry I was away in Lapta with little internet so business comes first – no C44

CTA Weight limit (not for infants)

25 Kg per passenger in the hold and 5Kg in the cabin

AJ, In the past on KTHY people risked going overweight and only rarely did the check in crews make an example of them by charging (unless they were being unreasonable with the excess weight) – these days I would not risk it all airlines are getting very cost conscious so they may not allow any excess unpaid for I think the current CTA rate is £7.00 or £8.00 / kilo

Fire starter, The weight of a suitcase or package can go up to 32 Kg but that might be reduced soon (this is for health and safety reasons).

If you have a lot of excess then talk to us about a small airfreight consignment.

Tom - many thanks for this. When we were caught out, we had only a couple of kilos over in our cases and we had no hand luggage at all. I know that usually you are given the option of moving some stuff into carrier bags, but this time this option was not offered. Just "go to the desk and pay" and they were doing it to everyone. Mind you, the girl who was checking the bags in was a bit of a "jobsworth".

Thanks again for info.

Go by what they say on your e-ticket.They can hardly charge you exta if it states on your E-ticket your allowance is 25kg for baggage and 5kg for hand luggage.Thats a good allowance when you consider the likes of Thomas Cook(15kg) Monarch(20kg) and Easyjet(20kg) the latter two you have to pay for your baggage.

Coachie, NEVER use the rule go by the eticket nor by what is published on site as airlines can and do change their rules even when you are flying their only legal obligation is to get you to the destination (however they do it!).

In this instance you are right currently to advise that it is 25Kg but it could go down or up by the time Woodspeckie flies.

I think you would have cause for redress if they did not fulfill thier legal obligations, after all they have made a contract with you.If you breach thatcontract in any way they would soon be after you for compensation. All I can say is if I had a ticket which said 25kgs and they tried to charge me without any prior notification I would certainly kick up a stink..

Didn't CTA reduce the luggage allowance last year from 25kg to 20kg? But it didn't last long and I was informed by Ankara Travel that it had gone up to 25kg and indeed at Christmas, used 25kg and it was not queried. Fly again on 3rd April and am using 25kg luggage allowance again as that it was I have told is correct.

We had the same problem when we travelled over, we doubled checked and it was definately 25kg for the siutcase and 5kg for hand luggage. I had 24.9kg and 4.8 respectively and nothing was said. Hope this is of help.

At the end of last year CTA did indeed reduce the weight of baggage allowance to 20Kgs. The main reason being the cost of fuel at the time. By saving 5kgs on 200 passengers (1000 kgs or 1 ton) in weight the aircraft could carry less fuel to complete its journey so negating having to add fuel surcharges or put fares up.

Once fuel prices reduced they increased the limit again to 25kgs.

Coachie: the airlines along with most international companies are a law to themselves - they operate under the Warsaw Convention and goodness only knows when it was drafted. You would probably be flogging a dead horse with the complaint and the legal costs could be huge all over 5Kg.

Millzer: Current CTA rules are 25 Kg (if they change them you might find out before arriving at the check in desk)

Timothy: Yes and as many if not most passengers fly with less than 20Kg it was not a great problem for them

Dawn Have I known you that long? I think you would find a way if needed, we have to from Birmingham with Turkish. It depends who else you travel with because the other person might need less than you.

Hi tom

Ref message 9:

'AJ, In the past on KTHY people risked going overweight and only rarely did the check in crews make an example of them by charging (unless they were being unreasonable with the excess weight) – these days I would not risk it all airlines are getting very cost conscious so they may not allow any excess unpaid for I think the current CTA rate is £7.00 or £8.00 / kilo'

I guess what I was really trying to say was that if you get stung for excess baggage then a nice friendly chat to the duty supervisor will normally get your cost's reduced.

Msg 24 Depends on the supervisor I supose but better save weight and bring less. No problems and no catching a cold from a hide bound officious person who may charge you the full whack.
