I will be visiting soon and will be without a car for a couple of days, therefore I would appreciate if anybody knows of a good food shop in the Alsancak area within walking distance between escape beach and Denizkizi beach. Or is it better to get the local bus to the center of town. I will have two children with me so I dont really want to go to far. Thanks

More or less opposite the Deniz Kizi Hotel turning you will find Ileli Supermarket and Starling Supermarket. Ileli has lots of UK favourites and Starling is great for fresh fruit and veg. More or less opposite Starling is The Pork Shop if you fancy some pork chops.

Dear Puppylover, Thank you very much for your kind offer.

Our house is just up the road on the left turn off just before the DenizKizi Hotel. Therefore by looking on Google earth we do not seem that far away from the shops!!! I will try the walk with the boys and see how it goes.

Can I please keep your offer open. Are you close to Alsancak since I would not like to put anybody out?. If you fancy a tea/ coffee or a cold drink depending if the weather warms up!! then I would like to invite you around. You can contact me directly by e-mail on jonk1@bluewin.ch

Thank you and everybody else who replied.

Pupplylover - its lovely to see your kind gesture. Real hospitality.

We stay in Alsancak and also have lovely neighbours who have shown hearts of gold when we've had teething problems (or rooftop pump explosions).

Random acts of kindness are not as rare as I thought... Put a smile on my face.

jonkay,

Atakara is a good option (on the road opposite TURKISH BANK).

Astro is on the main road, and close to Merit hotel, and the easiest to find. Impossible to miss. English brands can be bought in Astro.

It is incredibly quiet in there, but the good side is......NO QUEUES!

Yabeles is also on the main road, in Alsancak. Best for fresh fruit and veg.

Judy - just a thought. We're coming over for 3 weeks in June and, as per usual, we were going to hire a car; however, we wondered whether you could see your way clear to driving us around??? What do you think???
