Given the problems that have occured over the past few days, do you think trnc property owners and holidaymakers will continue to fly in via Larnaca and Paphos?

Morning Hans. Both really. Will they continue or should they continue?

I think some of them will. However I don't think they should. I definately wouldn't go out or in that way. Antone who is coming in or out should be very vigilant.

For a start, don't carry anything on you that might relate to you owning a property here.

Perry - message 6. Nothing that I am aware of. The point I raised was - will or should owners or holidaymakers continue to fly into the South for onward transit into the North?

Re Msg #9: I can confirm they have lists. I was stopped earlier today on the South Side, with papers. Our property is on pre-1974 deeds so we had no problem after they checked the papers (part of car search - they had opened my briefcase). When quizzed they confirmed to me that IF I had had papers indicating the house was on exchange deeds (Et Al) I would have been arrested. They DON'T have lists at the border - but they check paperwork. So, don't carry any papers that might incriminate you.

msg 9 - Oh I know all about the Orams, and of course share everbodies concern. No my question was more if something was happening at the borders - I am very very lucky and travel a lot with work, so enjoy free BA flights on most of our trips through air miles. Unfortunately they only fly to Larnaca.....

Just to clarify my previous msg. They don't have lists at the actual border, BUT have access to lists elsewhere if they are suspicious from your paperwork etc. Don't carry ANY papers that might make them suspect you own property or land previously owned by a GC. Common sense really.

even if you cross the border, what can they do to you under the EU law, what right have they got to arrest you , you are EU citizen, apart from the fact they can bother you, delay your trip and make you to miss your flight for the worst, under which regulation can they put you in jail ! i am waiting for explanations if anyone knows exactly of course !

Also be carefull what you talk about on Flights in to the south, Air crew have been known in the past to listen to converstations and inform the police at the Airport on landing if they hear you talking about your property in the north. They may not be able to hold you for anything or for long, but the it could cause you a headache.

One of my staff (EU passport holder) used my car last year and forgot to take out a box of tourist guides from here, they were stopped at the boarder searched and the books found, not hard as they were in plain view in the back of my jeep, they taken to the police station and held for 3 hours. They were only released because the car was regisitered in my name, I lost 100 tourist guides, and his wife missed her plane!

Its not paranoia, never cross with anything that will up set them!

We were searched at the border going to Larnaca airport about 2 years ago, they took our contracts (copy's) and told us off! Saying it is illegal to own a property in the North.

Dear Sylvie

re msg 15

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/travel-advice-by-country/europe/cyprus/

"On 20 October 2006 a criminal code amendment relating to property came into effect. This has implications for anyone in possession of documents relating to the purchase of property in northern Cyprus when crossing the Green Line, who could face criminal proceedings under the 20 October 2006 amendment. Please see the property section below for more information about the criminal code amendment."

The link below specifically refers to the CRIMINAL Code of RoC you may be breaking...:

I've not heard of an EU citizen being arrested or charged - but this makes it clear that in THEY" they could ..

This is nothing more than common sense.

Nothing has changed since last week regarding paperwork across the border. I have always been careful not to take those type of documents into the south, or talk to anyone on the plane into Larnaca about my business.

Just stay aware.

Steve - message 23. Yes, I guess it would incriminate you. Why would you be bringing that type of stuff in? You could say you were bringing it in for a friend but that just opens another can of worms; what's your friend's name, what is his/her address, how long have they lived here/ how long have you known them, etc etc....

Personally I would never fly in or out of the South.

regardless of if you agree or not with the laws of the republic of cyprus they should be taken seriously. the purchase of property with post 1974 deeds is illegal.why put youselfs in a vunerable position by using Larnaca Airport.

you cannot break the law just because you do not agree with it

Pilgrim. To be honest I'd rather pay the extra £350 to avoid any potential hassle. It just wouldn't be worth it. I know it's all conjecture but I'd always err on the side of safety.

I just wanted to say that this info is really helpful especially the part about talking on the flight! I've flown into Larnaca a few times with papers and household goods and fortunately nothing happened. I won't be taking the chance again. This time, I'm coming by ferry to Kyrenia so no probs. Thanks everyone.

Dear Happy Hussar re msg 29

I believe most posters know by now they are incorrect in a "de jure " ( legally [real world] correct sense) - otherwise we wouldn't be debating the right ( or not) or Mr Apoostolides to sue the Orams .

Nor would they read on their govts websites info as to the correct terminology ".. but thanks for bring it up ;)

Hi collected our friends from Laranca early hours monday morning and they had people with clip boads asking questions as to where they we traveling to from the airport. I d not know if they are just collating info as to how many come onto the north via LCA. I guess a lot of frequent fliers that do use it to come to the TRNC lie as naturally they do not want the grief. My friend did notice however that they seemed to questions passangers from Uk flights

if any of you get hassle write to both your local MP in the UK and Euro MP that will create some stick for them they do not deserve to be in the EU if UK nationals or any other for that matter get hassle.

We are paying £800 with KTY on 3rd August from Birmingham to Ercan for a month. Thats 2 adults and a 14 year old who is classed as an adult. We didnt pay much different to this when daughter was classed as a child, so we are extremelly pleased. Can't wait to get back there.

Travelled both Ercan and Larnaca and never once had a problem crossing the border. Its all about common sense when doing the border thing.Just keep the property stuff out of harms way and dont wave it about on the plane either as i have seen instances of people being questioned at 36,000 feet.Basically just use your loaf.

fly in and out of Larnaca 4 times a year cross over at Pile never had a problem always used common sense.

When i was travelling to larnaca and stopped at the border and asked to open my car boot last year, i said no you can do it (he was being a right arrogant pig) he said no then he just waved me threw, either i was lucky or is there something about they cannot gain access unless they have your authorisation? this is a serious question.

Serious answer:

1/ it is NOT a "border" - it is the UN designated cease fire line AKA "Green line"

2/ As it is the first opportunity that the recognised govt that ( currently ) represents the island at the EU has to enforce EU prescribed security checks.

3/ If the Customs Officer or Immigration Official fel you might be breaking a "Green Line" or local law - they can ask you to open your vehicle for inspection - and if you refuse - they can inform you that they therefore have suspicions you are hiding something - and check anyway.

As well as being "arrogant" he was also lazy... The guys checking vehicles at SBA crossings are far more professional.

I have just booked two Easyjet flights from Istanbul on December 6th for about £25 each. I have been promising for years that I will stop off on the way home some time, so am really excited. Just need the Pegasus Ercan - Istanbul link now, and am waiting for the winter schedule that came out in August last year. I would like to think that I will always fly in and out of Ercan, but sometimes Larnaca flights are tempting, especially if they go from Northern airports. They must be suspicious at the airport when they see all the TRNC stamps in the passport.

They rarely look inside a UK passport. If they did and saw your stamps they can't do anything about it.

My passport has lots of TRNC stamps in it......no problems flying into Larnaca at all....except the once when they had "given" our seats to someone else.Once I'd called the manager of the airport ......strangely they found our seats again!
