Let's have a positive posting thread about North Cyprus, with no negative postings or rubbish allowed. Refusal to partake in petty diatribe is mandatory. All negative threads are ignored. Now- for everyone like us who are about to make the move to TRNC, please,we need encouragement from all you people that are living the life and enjoying it, tell us why you are glad you made the move yourselves. Maybe it will cheer everyone up, especially if you take things for granted without realising it . Could be worse, you could still be living here!

You wake up most days to sunshine.

The views here are fantastic. Every day the scenery changes.

It's like going back in time to when life wasn't about material things.

The air is fresher.

.................

that's just for starters

It is human nature to support the "Positive" with the "Negative", that way the positive is made more positive and the negative becomes a means by which you can pat yourself on the back for achieving all the positives you feel you have done - so forgive my odd negatives please, this is a very "Positive" place to live but it is dependent upon how many "Negatives" you have now!

We are retired (positively!!!) and we chose TRNC years ago because of the people, the pace of life and the weather (negative today as it is raining - but even that is positive because we need the water). Another reason for coming here was that it was 30 years behind the cut, thrust and mayhem of modern UK living - proving Positivily that the older you get the more you want for the slower pace of life.

The country has become more modern and faster but it is still Positively slow by comparison with elsewhere, the laws are out of date - the those in the UK aren't???? You would be forgiven for thinking that

This is AWESOME....something we should all remember. A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window. I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait.' 'That doesn't have anything to do with it,' he replied. Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.

Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged .. it's how I arrange my mind.. I already decided to love it. 'It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories! Thank you for your part in filling my Memory Bank. I am still depositing. 'Remember the five simple rules to be happy: 1. Free your heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3. Live simply. 4. Give more. 5. Expect less.

there are two rules in operation - one Positive for the local people and one Negative for the Expats. Be positive and go seek out the same things as the locals buy, use, argue over, etc, etc. If you are not willing to join in with the very slow cut and thrust of the bargain and barter system then you have either chosen the wrong place to live or just pay up and moan about it later! Say NO more oftern, go elsewhere to shop, seek advice from your local friends, live local!!!

Some come here to live the life of the picture book and the bar, others come to "Blend In" both are happy doing what they want and that is how it should be.

For us the country and people meet every expectation and we are very happy here. We did our research well before we moved and got most things right! Be positive that you will have to que and wait and come back another day and that the person you spoke to on the phone before you went to see them, now can not speak one word of English! Learn a little

Turksish - you don't need much to start with and Please/Thank You/Excuse Me/Good Morning/Night along with Welcome go a long way to starting you off on a wonderful journey. Don't be negative about the stern looks you get from the Turkish men - that is their way so be positive that one day you will make them smile, it is worth everything when you finally do something silly or say the wrong thing or just become better "Nodding" friends and they Smile!!!

Yavas is the one word to keep by your side at all times - nothing happens fast and sometimes nothing happens at all - there is always Yarin and of course the sun.

Your new house will have faults in it, they all do. The car you want will be twice the price of UK cars, but did you not find that out before you made up your mind to come? We did and sold our Pajero before we left UK - now I would give anything to have brought it and eventually paid the custums - live and learn, nobody gets it all right first time.

So that is my little bit in four seperate parts - hope it helps or makes sense to you people out there on the edge of the big brave move.

Come on and enjoy life at your pace - no need to rush and no need to get unhappy with things, it will all be sorted out one day so why worry anyway.

My Turkish friend out here has some wonderful sayings that he then has to explain to me so I understand them but they all boil down to "Live your life as you want to live it and enjoy what you have TODAY, tomorrow might change everything and if you have missed today, you can never get it back"

Be happy, smile more - for no reason at all just try smiling when you walk through town! Take care.

Daffodils. We will welcome you to North Cyprus when you come and if you are like us, you will have no regrets. Yes, things have changed very much over the six years we have been here and the system is so different to the uk, prices have risen but so they have everywhere. You will wake most mornings to beautiful sunshine (even in the winter when it is much colder), you will soon become used to local customs and learn to live with them and you will soon learn how nice the Turkish Cypriot people are. Yes, there are many that will try to rip you off with a smile, and you will soon learn to recognise this, but they are far out numbered by the very genuine people. You will probably make far more friends here than you every did in the uk. There are some people here who cannot settle and want to go back to the ukmostly because they miss their familes, but we have seen more of ours and had better quality time with them since we`ve been here. Good luck.

It’s not how much we have, but how much we enjoy that makes happiness. The place to be happy is here. The time to be happy is now. The way to be happy is to help make others happy..

Happy Days !!

Oulton17,

thankyou for your donation, another reason why I love this Island so much. People like you helping us

to help the unfortunate children on this Island.

You can call me on 0533 839 9122 when you get here, and I'll arrange to meet you if that's more

convenient.

Thankyou,

Joan

Parkview that is the loveliest thing that I have read for a long time, and I thank you for posting it.

I now always approach life with a cup half full.

Half empty just does not exist.

Been there, done that. Not good.

Life is amazing, to be enjoyed, savoured and cherished.

OK very late now - probably had a couple too many coffee and brandies. Roll on 7 June (more coffee and brandy, but on our balcony, hopefully) - all welcome, by the way - Alsancak.

But, for what it's worth, what makes me happy is:

The love of my husband - and mine for him. Before you all start being sick, it's a very volatile relationship.

The love of my son - and mine for him. Ditto

A beautiful spring/summer morning

Sunset - anywhere - nature takes a lot of beating

Sunrise -anywhere - we're still here, aren't we?

The fact that we are all still here- I know, from experience, that life's too short.

Live now, live long (if you can - and even if you can't, live life to the full) love life and live to laugh.

Gawd - I must be getting old? No - only joking, I mean it.

OK you insolent, arrogant, lonely, sad B. What is your problem ? You have alienated a lot of people on this board - why? I, and obviously many others, find you a pain in the arse. Yet, you continue to 'pick' on me - again, why?

I know, for a fact, that people who have met you find you bitter, sarcastic and, to put it crudely (i.e. in words that you will understand) up your own orifiice. For some reason, best known to yourself, you think you are above most of us here. For example, you called me, some while ago, and I quote:

"Nouveau Riche, ex-pat, tee-shirt wearing, tattoo fan."............ I can certainly assure you that I am none of these You offered to meet us -WHY. I have no wish to meet you, nor will I ever have any wish to meet you. You belittle people on this board with your so-called "superior intellect" - well, it might wash with some but it doesn't wash with me.

Oh, by the way, what happened to your charming post, likening us Hitler, Pol Pot., etc.........

Brinsley - sheep got your tongue? Where is your "People for Dinner" thread? Still waiting.

Of course, If I were to reconsider, I would probably have just yourself and your New Best Friend around - I couldn't possibly ask anyone else - the room would be full of egos and hot air and who would invite anyone else under those circumstances? They'd be bored rigid!!!!

I, of course, would be out (of the country, preferably).

Did anybody forget the name of this thread? If anybody has their own agenda for whatever reason, please ignore them. If everybody ignored people who obviously just post to wind other's up then they would not post again, what would be the point? after all it woul be like arguing with yourself. Thanks very much to those of you who have replied positively. North Cyprus needs positive publicity, it does not get much I've noticed.

Please post positive comments relatiing to North Cyprus on this thread, so that any new people viewing the forum will see that despite all the negative publicity, it is still a lovely place to live
