Paphos?

He/she said location was 'Pathos', that may be nearer the truth.

'Pathos (Emotional) means persuading by appealing to the reader's emotions. We can look at texts ranging from classic essays to contemporary advertisements to see how pathos, emotional appeals, are used to persuade. Language choice affects the audience's emotional response, and emotional appeal can effectively be used to enhance an argument.'

Take care

Have you not heard of 'Aristotle's Appeals' i.e. Ethos, Pathos and Logos?

i have just read it

The goal of argumentative writing is to persuade your audience that your ideas are valid, or more valid than someone else's. The Greek philosopher Aristotle divided the means of persuasion, appeals, into three categories--Ethos, Pathos, Logos.

Ethos (Credibility), or ethical appeal, means convincing by the character of the author. We tend to believe people whom we respect. One of the central problems of argumentation is to project an impression to the reader that you are someone worth listening to, in other words making yourself as author into an authority on the subject of the paper, as well as someone who is likable and worthy of respect.

Pathos (Emotional) means persuading by appealing to the reader's emotions. We can look at texts ranging from classic essays to contemporary advertisements to see how pathos, emotional appeals, are used to persuade. Language choice affects the audience's emotional response, and emotional appeal can effectively be used to

Absolutely and all 3 appeals can be applied to most postings on this board but unfortunately you ran out of characters and you need to repost with the balance of 'Pathos' text and the 'Logos text'.

sorry new to this here is the rest

enhance an argument.

Logos (Logical) means persuading by the use of reasoning. This will be the most important technique we will study, and Aristotle's favorite. We'll look at deductive and inductive reasoning, and discuss what makes an effective, persuasive reason to back up your claims. Giving reasons is the heart of argumentation, and cannot be emphasized enough. We'll study the types of support you can use to substantiate your thesis, and look at some of the common logical fallacies, in order to avoid them in your writing.

But there are some on this board that do not fit into any of the above qualifiers. Now I wonder who they could be?

The lunatics have finally taken over this asylum. Or: how to send 50% of the board members to a happy-clappy board...

PS. Do read the forum rules when you move from this board to another board:

It probably means that "Personal attacks are not allowed - Don't attack others. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated." There. Geddit?

Yeh but No but, I am only part time now and I have limited my philosophy discussions to 2 days a week but you will have to guess which two.

'I'm going off to find that book

Erm it used to be some time ago.

mankeiny - well, you've got off to a cracking start.

Do you find the expression "I tie" insulting? Do you refer to Greeks as "Bubbles"? A lot of people do, on both counts.

I should be a little more careful here, my friend!

RE msg 22, Lilli > what happened d artinino was he italian or greek xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <

=> Dear Lilli: "d artinino" was the brother of d'Artagnan, who was a Dutch painter and worked often with Rembrandt.

PS. My friend Alexandre Dumas wrote a book about d'Artagnan. The book is still for sale at Denizplaza in Girne.

During my school days, my best mate was from the other side.

Spikes dead now. Lost up a sub sea pipe as a welder diver.

My family were from our side and his family theres.

Nonsense.

We used to hare about europe on our bikes and bugger the rest.

Times too short for all that shite.

Those that contrive it, why ?

Well said CyprusChill. Those that hate simply based on religion, colour, culture, race or past history, may well miss out on what might have been a life-long friendship and a better understanding of history.

Get to know the person and then form your own opinion, its the only way of measuring someones true worth. Why are so many keen to stereotype? We do not hear enough about the positive relations between the GC and TC. Perhaps if we did we wouldn't have such a one sided view.
