What is the position concerning Telephone lines in North Cyprus, are they easy to instal, or is there a long wait, and what is the cost ?

Any information please

Too give you an idea, I applied 3 years ago, last thing I was told ,"within 10 days" that was 2 months ago, if you have all teh wiring in the neighorhood it should'nt cost much to apply. My apartment is all wired up and ready they jsut have to connect two wire and then turn it on.

I wish you luck.

The "telephone box" is full in most districts in Kyrenia, so even they have empty slots in the main office, they can't get a line from the "box" to your house.

This has been the case in the last 1.5 years.

I have been in close contact with the manager of electricity office in Kyrenia.

He claims that he has been requesting budget from the government every month to improve the infrastructre but to no avail.

Nevertheless he confirmed that the government has put out to tender the whole phone system with a new wireless technology, used in only few countries in Europe.

I know that this doesn't sound realistic but we will see. He said that it will happen in 2008.

I started living in my flat since December 2005 and I still don't have a phone line connected although the apartment in front of me have it.

Hi Izzet

Would be grateful if you could provide an update on the situation regarding getting land lines (I will be in Karsiyaka in September).

Also, any news re paragraph 5 above?

Thanks in advance, Paul

It all depends on the availability of telephone lines and therefore it depends in which area you are in. In some cases you have have a new number and line within a few days, in other cases you may have to wait for years even if you know somebody.

It is true that they are going for wireless and therefore it will be easy to supply a telephone line quite easily anywhere it is required. My daughter had this system installed in Istanbul and used it for two eyars before they had normal connections. The main drawback with wireless is that in case of a power cut you are without telephone unless you have a backup system.

No problems at all in Karsiyaka!!!!!!!!!

All you got to do is hand over lots of money and you will get a connection.

We waited 11 years for a line, and that was before we had mobiles. We had to go to the nearest hotel to make calls!!!
