We always try and support CTA even though their staff are the most miserable of any airline we have flown with. Yesterday they excelled themselves with their inefficiency and sheer rudeness.

We were due ti fly out of Ercan to Manchester at 6.45 a.m. When we arrived at the airport we were in plenty of time but as they only had 2 check in desks open it took forever to check in. Eventually they must have realised we were in danger of missing our flights and they opened 4. It was after 6 by now so we sat down expecting to be called at 6.20 a.m. Nothing happened until the board showed last call for the Manchester flight. Everyone rushed to the gate, to be told very casually "your flight is delayed for 2 and a half to 3 hours. No reason and no apology. They could not have cared less. However they did supply a drink and a sandwich. The flight eventually left at 10.15 with no apology or explanation. Even when we were called for boarding they messed it up.

We usually fly CTA to support the airline and help keep it going! You are right they are the most miserable flight crew ever experienced on any airline.

After 10 years of flying with CTA, I switched to Pegasus, haven't had a delay yet (many with CTA and never an explanation, even 12 hours once from Heathrow). My theory was to support CTA but enough was enough.

Flew CTA last thursday night on time from Stansted and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent flight. It just shows you then doesn't it?

I'm a very nervous flyer and I have always been treated wonderfully by the hostesses on KTHY. They go out of their way to ensure I'm OK during the flight and always seat me right at the front next to any personnel who reassure me and explain any funny noises! Last time I flew, unfortunately Denktas has the first row, but they still put me in row 2. My problem with flying is that if I see rows of seats in front of me I freak for some reason which is why they put me right at the front to overcome this problem!! I would never fly with any other airline.

Have to say the same,

Fflown CTA loads of times and always a good flight and looked after by the staff.

I have to complain about Manchester Airport, truly awful airport delays going out and always delays at passport control on the way in........is it just me but the passport people at Manchester always seem to have a smug grin on their face when making us stand in line like sheep.

Turtle Msg 8

Last time I quewed (is that spelt right??) at passport control Manchester the lady pointed out that as I had the new type passport I could bypass the quew and go through the automatic thingy that reads your passport - going to try it this Saturday will post result on here!

Re KTHY I always fly with these as they have good civilised flight times from Manchester which connect good with the train. Also I joined their frequent flyer programme (cost about $120) which gets me 1st class treatment & extra 10kgs of baggeage each time - membership also covers partner/spouse if travelling together!

The check in at Manchester is not covered by KTHY staff - Serviceair run it for them and I agree the service is abbysmal!

Maggie

ps. How DO you spell quew properly??????

By the time that Manchester flight got back to Ercan yesterday, they'd managed to increase the delay to 4½ hours. It arrived at 1am.

Yes it does cause me inconvenience or are you saying this is ok, typical stand in line do as you are told attitude..............perhaps the uniform says a lot about that attitude ?

Yes of course your right, totally and without reservation but then again people like you always are right and self rightious. Don't have a snide at my uniform. Just remember if and I sincerly hope it never happens, you find yourself in the shit it will be a uniform of some sort, from wherever that pull you out of it. What will be your first words? What took so long maybe?

cyprusgaz; why don't you enrol for the iris recognition programme at Manchester airport? That way you beat all the passport control queues and walk straight out through the cubicle in around 20 secs

Nifty that's what I was on about in Msg 9 - I'm going to try it on Saturday - hopefully it will speed things up a bit - last time I went back I missed a train by 5 min & had to wait 2 hours for the next one! Grrrrrhhh!

Delays do happen, however, I've never understood that when the CTA craft is at a safe altitude that the drinks trolley does not come out straight away, well before the food is to be served to appease the frustrated passengers. Laziness no doubt!

CTA bought a software package some years ago at around $250,000, the same as BA uses, which would have cut down the personnel staff needed per craft journey from 140 to about 80. It was never implemented probably due to nepotism!

Cyprusgaz, I have nothing but admiration and total respect for our armed forces that is not in question but you must understand that in the free world we simply do not have to accept what we are told to do there is an option to question and that is simply what I was doing.

By the way if its you that is sent to rescue me then I suggest you get yourself in better physcal shape

Sticks and stones mate. I just keep looking at my pension cheque it helps calm the temper when dealing with ignorance. What happened mate failed to make the grade with your application so many years ago? Never mind the world needs General Managers like you. I bet your mega efficiant clipboard, pencil and shoulder chip. It's been a wonderful and fulfiling career for me. I could go and be a General Manager now if I wanted but I don't want to end up a miserable bitter old fart moaning about everything having lived a life time of inadequacy.

Signing off now with much better things to do!!

Sadly I'm not a fan of CTA either. Had some pretty poor experiences with them. Pegasus were much better, and I am finding CTA can be very expensive too.

Have to agree that the staff on CTA are the rudest i have ever experienced, I have flown with them on many occasions and I can honestly say I have never come across a sterwardess who is happy and helpful, they are always very sullen and it seems as though they are really put out if you ask them for any thing. I could live with it if the flights werent so outrageously expensive most of the time...come on CTA its about time you sorted yourselves out!

Come on! They're not that bad........The food's pretty good and on a few of their aircrafts, the seat pitch is not too bad. Obviously not to be compaired with Qatar air of Fly Emiratres though.

I do agree that the service isn't quite what it used to be.

Makes you think... "could it really be that hard to train them to provide a good service?".

I have to say that I find CTA a very poor airline, long delays, surly staff, I will only use them in an emergency, I much prefer Turkish Airlines.

I also find Manchester airport disgusting, walkways that are never working, gate areas tatty and dirty, arriving at Manchester and heading for passport control is like walking the London marathon, there is definitely no consideration shown to travelling passengers.

I can't believe they're even more miserable than the Monarch crews - they really do a terminal case of "face like a melted welly syndrome!"

I have used CTA on many occassions..(also pegasus)...have only ever had half hour delay with cta a couple of times, but the pilot has made that time up in the air, so we still arrived on time......

I agree the staff can be miserable, never get a smile, just abrupt orders from them, and believe me it dont help if you answer them in turkish, they turn there noses up even further......

Even had one stewardess question me about my son cause he looks more english than turkish.....she didnt like the answer i gave her.....his father is english, tried a turk (1st marriage) and didnt like it.....

Going cta in july and returning with pegasus...keep fingers crossed that all will be well
