I was there as well 3 weeks ago and can only say the same we were very upset and will not be back, also the Esentepe villa hotel seems to have gone down hill a lot, there is mess everywhere and lots of unruly kids running about and too many cats, i know there is alterations going on but the mess should not be as bad as it is

I agree with the above messages regarding the Antique as its always been a bit hit and miss especially where the food is concerned. Its a shame to hear that about the Hotel though. I haven't been in there since before Greg left. I know the new occupants are doing a lot to the place but as mentioned there is no need to let standards slip.

We are near the end of our renovation work and the area was all cleared up

on friday only waiting for the debri collection now, as for the cats any sensible suggestions as to keep them away will be helpfull and if people did not feed them that would help.

Hi fourplusone

Unfortunately whilst you have "brits" eating at a restaurant you will always have cats and probably local dogs as for some reason we feel the need to feed them, must be our loving nature . What these people don't realise is that the animals get used to not having to source their own food and often starve when they have to fend for themselves after the visitors have gone home.

All I can suggest is that you put a notice up suggesting it is kinder not to feed the animals. Good luck.

We used the Antique last summer for the first time. MEDIOCRE TO SAY THE LEAST! I very much doubt we will use it again unless something changes.

Haven't been to the villa hotel since last October but we have always enjoyed our meals there.

Re feeding cats

Perhaps have a designated feeding area and give them kitchen scraps, meat etc, any kitty loving tourist can always donate some food if they wanted to.

The hotel we have stayed at have a sign to say the cats are fed twice a day and request people do not feed them, and people can request their leftover meat is given to the cats.

We went to Antique in October and was very unhappy. The meal was very poor and was extremely expensive for what we got.

Went to the Esentepe hotel a few days later and had a very nice meal. Will be returning to hotel next week when we are over. Gail

We went to the Esentepe Hotel a couple of weeks ago for Sunday lunch.

Food was great (as usual) and we were thrilled to see the cats and gave them a few scraps from our plate.

My vote is to leave things as they are - if you don't want to feed them dont, they'll soon get the message - if you want to, then do so - they are no trouble really.....

Agree with comments about the Antique - went there for lunch a few months ago and they had no food !!

Have to say we had a really good meal up at the golf club and there were 4 cats hanging around us the whole evening miaowing and it was really annoying. The waiter did shoo them away a couple of times but it wasnt very nice because you do feel tempted to feed them but by feeding them at the table is only encouraging them to come back for more!

I hate it when people feed animals at restaurants, it really encourages them to bother every guest, as they expect food then.

It's okay to say ignore them and they will go away, but they do rub up against you, and when someone has an allergy, it really is not amusing. By all means, feed the animals, but away from the dining area please.

We don't feed the dog scraps from our table at home, so she no longer even comes looking. Nothing worse than a dog begging at the table when you have guests. We are not being cruel, she gets the tidbits later on, in her bowl.

Hi All,

This site never ceases to amaze me, how on earth did we get from the price of a small beer and a small glass of wine at the Antique Bar & Restaurant to feeding cats at the table in every restaurant in the TRNC? lol I will be out in Cyprus from the 29th March = 23rd April. If anyone fancies meeting up, let me know. I am in the Esentepe area.

I love cats , where this is cats, there is fleas, i suffer. I still feed them half my food.( if it doesn't taste good then they get all my food).

A suggestion, maybe the owners should get them fixed, one each week.

That would really help them.

I was there last night at the Esentepe hotel, the 2 times previous I had been it was more akin to a childrens playground, kids running everywhere even at 10 O'clock at night but last night takes some beating, after 90 minutes my food still hadn't arrived so I left, never to return.

Hi all,

Just back from chilly UK and reading all the comments, good and bad, as someone who owned the hotel let me say one thing Glenn & Sue have taken the place over and are doing an excellent job, and I am sure that if a complaint were made (coppernob) then it would have been dealt with expediently, something people must remember is that you can please some of the people most of the time, most of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time,

well , we could always keep some orange peel in our handbags , and scatter them around our table when we dine !! { it is a natural deterant } cats hate it , might raise a few eyebrows but then the british are known for their accentricities are'nt they ?

another deterrent was half fill a plastic bottle and lay it down outside. By all accounts the water reflects the cats eyes and scares them off. Not sure if it actually works but I remember seeing lots of plastic half filled bottles on peoples lawns. They used to use dark bottles.

Has anyone else heard of this/do they know if it actually works?

Karen,

Haven't heard of that one, but it's worth a try.

I know cats don't like water, I have a hosepipe at the ready in our back garden and if any cats stray in they get a good soaking. It know it would be a bit difficult to have a hosepipe at a restuarant table so perhaps a water pistol would have the same effect?

I am an animal lover really, and wouldn't do harm to any creature, but can't be doing with cats creeping aroud while I am eating.

Hye Karen

Know where you are coming from - BUT - that is a variant of something they use in Spain regularly - BUT not for cats !!

They hang clear plastic bags filled with water around areas that are a problem. Apparently the flies coming into the area see (in the bag of water) a magnified reflection of themselves and fearing giant flies they turn around and fly away !!!

We tried it on the roof with pigeons - guess what - didn't work !!! Has anyone got a "Gat gun" !!!!!!

Hiya everybody,

This thread was so amusing and informative. Can anyone tell me if you have to book at the esentepe villa hotel for meals. We will be going over at the end of April and that sounds like a great place to eat.

Thanks
