Last week, Garry Monger and Garry Monger's missus flew to Turkey with Pegasus.....

Mrs M ain't happy - 10 mins into the flight the trolley dollies came round and she ordered 2 diet coke's (yes i thought it was funny too)....

As she opened them she was asked for 11 TL

5.5 TL for a diet coke seems mightily expensive to me...

Can anyone beat this ?

2 tl at Gulen Kebab....

an asside - why does Garry Monger's missus eat like she's eating for the whole village, but insist on only drinking "diet" Coke ??

NN I think it's a 'woman thing'. Mrs M probably calculates the calories she's saved by drinking diet coke instead of the normal type and then uses the saved calories on another kebab/burger.

It's women's logic!

Normal sort of prices for aircraft I would say. Unfortunately since all the security scares, it's either that or buy it in airport, which ain't much better.

We recently flew from Antalya to Ercan and were shocked at their system.

Once you check in, you then had to go through passport control and hand baggage check then you came to the duty shops. We bought a couple of small bottles of water, as we have done so many times in Stansted.

We were then called for our flight only to have to go through what seemed like another passport control and hand baggage check only to find both our drinks taken from us that we had just bought in duty free so we would have had no option than to spend a fortune on drinks on Pegasus. They were not allowing any liquids to be taken on the flight at all.

It was causing chaos because everyone was getting caught out but the officials refused to budge. We actually thought there was going to be riot at the airport.

Needless to say we did not buy any drinks on the Pegasus flight, as it was only a short journey, but the prices were ridiculous.

Talk about rip-off prices. At Ercan last Monday, Paul bought 2 x vodka and cokes, 1 x large beer and 1 x coffee (Nescafe). Price - 47TL.

All the prices are listed here: http://www.flypgs.com/dosyalar/PFC/FlyingCafeDisHat.pdf

It seems that all drinks are 2.50 EURO or 5.50 TL or £2.50! I do agree this is very steep for a can of coke!

I agree with Woodspeckie Msg 7, take your own if you don't want to pay. From Ercan no restrictions. From UK have to buy from 'Duty free' area.

Rip off Britain buy after passport control £1.89 for a bottle of water from Boots or WH Smith no different from Airports abroad. What I can't get my head round is you have 20kg baggage allowance but go through Duty Free shops and there are so many now at Manchester you could buy another 20kg and take them on the plane at no extra charge.

My husband fancied a black coffee (nescafe) at Ercan a few days ago. Luckily they ask you to pay before they serve you and when they asked for 7.5 lira, he quickly changed his mind !!!

Rather stay thirsty than pay these prices !!!

All airlines charge over the odds for drinks, it's the only way they make more revenue.

Britvic- not if you fly scheduled airlines.

Last 2 trips with Turkish were cheaper than CTA , cheaper than Monarch and cheaper than Squeezy Je, considering all extra charges these airlines add on. AND you got free drinks, more legroom and a choice of meals.

Quote from Pegasus for you:

he rules applied in AYT are not Pegasus Airlines rules. Those are to be applied by all airlines Since 20th April 09 only in Antalya. As written below , this is not our system , applied (obligation ) by all airlines.

http://web.shgm.gov.tr/doc3/brosur.pdf

Beginning of 20 April 2009, new regulations about restrictions of liquids, aerosols, gels etc. in hand luggage.

* Capacity of liquid container no greater than 100ml.

* Liquid container must be carried separately in transparent plastic bag (with zip lock) which is 20cm by 20cm in size and has maximum capacity 1 (one) liter.

* Each passenger may carry only 1 (one) such bag of liquids.

* Essential medicines (with prescription and original package) and baby food are permitted.

* Liquids: Water, syrups etc., creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, any cosmetics. (lip gloss, mascara etc.) toothpastes, shaving gels and foams, hair gels, spray deodo .... Cont

This subject has triggered at least 10 emails with Pegasus.

It is very complex and at this moment only relates to AYT.

I will post some parts of the answer but the basis is that the 100 ml rule is applied to any fluid that is in hand baggage when passing through the airport.

:- I talked to Antalya Pegasus Station Manager. She told me that if you are transitting AYT for outbound International flights , or if it is direct international flight from Ayt ,liquid limitation is to be applied. For instance , if your route is ECN/AYT/DUS and if you will disembark in AYT but checked in from ECN as transit to DUS, you are to be screened again and will be kept responsible for limitation.Or,if your routing is AYT/SAW/STN , and if the pap is only checked to SAW but not STN, he is not to be kept responsible for limitation.

Shortly , for any international destination from AYT or transit in AYT for int. flight , liquid limitation will be held. .................. cont Msg 20

Cont ...............

I hope that it is clear.But , I am still yawning J

With best regards and wish you a good day.

Reply:-

Dear Boro

I've also started to yawn, how complicated, why cannot AYT act like everywhere else in the world and allow the common rule to take place.

At least I basically understand the rule that really means anyone flying back to STN either direct from AYT or transitting from ECN or any other point the 100ml rule will apply.

However if AYT stopover in SAW then onward connection (but not transitting) the rule will not apply.

I will now try to get this over to the original person and hopefully she may also start yawning.

Thank you once again for the help

Scoobydoo Msg 6 I hope that helps but doubt it does (the information is from the sattion manager for Pegasus in Stansted and the Pegasus operations management).

Sounds to me that they (or someone) have completely misinterpreted the guidelines. Every other airport in the world has these rules but before you go through first stage security. Once you go through into the airside area with it's duty free, everything liquid etc has supposedly been security checked on delivery.

If these rules are continued to stop you taking liquids onto the aircraft then surely the duty free shops will cease trading?

you should have seen the prices on thomascook last week. The smal mixer ones that used to be given free 1.50 sterling coke 2.50 beer £3. water £1.50. All the same. I know the have to make thier revenue but when you consider what a pre booked mealo costs its cheaper than sandwiches and a drink
