Does Anyone know the legal minimum driving age in NC. Some Hire companies impose an age of 25 years for insurance purposes but is this the minimum age.

My daughter is driving our hire car and she is 18 I checked with them and they said its fine.

We are over in a few weeks time and our usual hire Company has said it was 25 years. That is why I asked the question. It does therefore seem as if it is up to the individual hire company to impose their own age restriction !! This then begs the question: which company's hire a car where the age is under 25?

Just a warning - a friend of our son's (who was 18 at the time) hired a car here and was involved in a car accident. Only then did we learn that the minimum age for hiring a car was in fact 25, but the hire company were clearly more interested in hiring her a car. Obviously the responsibility rests with the rental company as they must check the driver's licence, but this is N. Cyprus and I dread to think what would have happened if other cars had been involved in the accident, or people had been injured. Her insurance might have been invalid.

A lot of insurers around the world wont insure hire cars for those under 25 due to the higher incidence of accidents etc in this group or alternatively post big excesses for under 25 's . It best to check the fine print before taking the car.

The company I use said it was fine for my daughter (who is under 25) to drive as long as the lead driver was over 25. However, she could not hire a car if she went out on her own or with friends of a similar age.

depends if foreigner or tc, our muhktars son drives on main road he is 12 sorry now 13!!!



All laws over here appear to be for 'visitors' Esentepe police seen drinking vodka and lemonade in local pub then driving off in police vehicle!!



TCs son from uk caught driving over here by police, no licence, said he was son of !!!!!!!!! and let off.

As a rule - most car rental companies would tell you their insurance does not allow for drivers under 25. (This applies in most countries.)
