Highball tumbler load of ice, brandy, freshly squeezed lemon juice, a touch of freshly squeezed lime juice, angostra bitters, soda. sorry forgot to add sugar the glass first by wetting the glass by dipping it in a saucer of water and cover the top in sugar. Add straw and enjoy. Only a couple of drops of the bitters though

Origins of the Brandy Sour

A "soft" drink fit for a king is essentially how the Brandy Sour came to be introduced. Back in the 1930’s, King Farouk of Egypt, who reigned from 1936 – 1952, spent much of his time in the Troodos mountain area of Cyprus staying at the Forest Park Hotel in the mountain resort of Platres.

Despite being a Muslim, the young king had a strong liking for Western cocktails so the hotel management devised the cocktail as a substitute for iced tea. Once the drink became known in other hotels in the resort, it quickly spread to other towns on the island. Today the Brandy Sour is internationally recognized as "the" Cyprus cocktail.

Ingredients for a Brandy Sour

2 measures Cypriot brandy

1 measure Cypriot lemon squash

2-4 drops of bitters (Angostura is the most commonly used) uu

Top up with soda or lemonade

Ice

How to Make a Brandy Sour Cocktail

Put ice in a tall glass and add a few drops of Angostura bitters add lemon and brandy

Add soda water

Thanks for your sensible answers, they were a great help.

I see that a couple of you can't resist posting crap, why can't you see that all a straight forward question needs is a straight forward answer ?

if i wanted to know where to buy a brandy sour then that is what i would have asked.

BigMart,

Be fair!

I know that my post WAS a bit 'jokey', but I did give you a link to the thread on the forum where the recipe was discussed previously - if you wanted to be deadly serious, you COULD have simply entered 'brandy sour' into the search box at the top, and had a perfectly emotionless response from the machine - or do what Hippo did, and 'Google' it...

As it is, we spent OUR time answering your query, when you could have perfectly well provided the answer to yourself, and yet YOU are the one getting snotty about it

Keith.
