Can anyone help with donations of B Positive blood type? I have a friend in hospital whose operation has had to be postponed because the blood bank has NO supplies of this blood type. If anybody can help, please telephone me on: 0542-8518421

We had 3 people listed as B+ . 2 are now on the way to give blood and I managed to get a holiday maker with B+ to give blood as well. So not bad for our first time. Well done all, Chris

Thank you very much to Chris and also Pru Lundie from BRS for helping out with my request. My friend now has the 3 units that she needs. Anybody who can give though would be most welcome as I understand that this group is the one that is the most difficult to find here.

Mess 7 - Nurse A i'm fully aware my blood type is "the Daddy", but i am terrified of: Hospitals, needles, doctors and Garry Monger's Missus's dumplings...... So i wouldn't be much use i'm afraid...

Well done to Nurseawful for organising this list!! I have been a member of the BRS for 6 years & stated my blood type but have never been asked to donate before, I knew my blood was not one of the most common but did not realise it was in such short supply here. Please keep us posted as to how the patient is.

Please note message 8: "Thank you very much to Chris and also Pru Lundie from BRS for helping out with my request. My friend now has the 3 units that she needs. Anybody who can give though would be most welcome as I understand that this group is the one that is the most difficult to find here". This is a combined effort including the BRS donors too. Mrs F and I gave a couple of pints of O Rh Neg last week for a local chap at the Lefkosa hospital via BRS so the system does work. Please also look under the Events tab for the Dinner Dance on Shayna Beach, Catalkoy intended to raise awareness for the Blood Donor needs in TRNC.

Nostrodamus; not wishing to be pedantic but in what way did Pru Lundie help you out in this particular circumstance? Nursie however did the business.

Hi Karen Wenborne Blood Bank Database Manager what exactly is your role? I would have thought it included checking the Database when blood is required & contacting potential donors? But obviously not as you did not contact me, you did however post a message on this board which anyone can do! Expect you are now going to say ‘but you have never attended a BRS Blood Donors Session’ how exactly is that relevant when on the BRS application form you are asked for your Blood Group? What is the point of a Database if you do not collate & use the the information properly? Anyone who decried Nurse Awful’s offer to set up a database as a duplication of effort as it was already being done by the BRS can now eat their words.

petez/nurseawful, Would it help you to be able to differentiate between those that are here full time and those who are 'swallows'? I thought maybe it could save you a lot of ringing around especially in an emergency. Apologies if you have already thought of it but I couldn't see anything on your form.

RE msg 23, scoobydoo: (...) I thought maybe it could save you a lot of ringing around especially in an emergency. (...) => All potential blood donors with the required blood group will receive a text message (to their mobile phone) from the database. They will be asked to confirm they are available. Nurseawful will be fully informed within minutes. Hope this answers your question. - Hans Doeleman
