Does anyone have their email address please, I sent them a cheque for my subsription renewal but they've stopped sending it, so I'm wondering if they received it or it went missing in that big deep hole where a lot of post for North Cyprus seems to end up!

I don't have the address but can you not find out whether the cheque was cashed?

It always takes some time before the cheque is cashed - has been up to 2 months after I sent it in the past, but they always kept on sending the paper.

There are a few emails there, the thread is a year or so old so don't know whether they are still them, but worth a try!

Whenever you send any cheques by post or whatever, make sure you cross it to "A/C Payee only". By doing so you ensure that the cheque has to go into the account of the payee i.e. the account of the person or company the cheques is written out for. Hence it cannot be cashed by anyone else or deposited with any other account. If the banks do not observe this condition you can always claim your money back. I did it once and the bank (the manager at the bank) learned it the hard way.

The law has been changed in UK and now you can write "A/C payee" but this is not enough for TRNC. Just be warned.

The two parallel lines on a UK bank cheque automatically indicates that it's 'payee A/C only'.

No, you are absolutely wrong, you must have been trained as a banker in TRNC!

The crossing i.e. the two parallel lines on a cheque indicates that it cannot be cashed directly at a bank and has to be paid into an account but this account can be anybody's account. If it is a cheque payable to a certain person or order, it has to be signed by him at the back of the cheques i.e. it has to be endorsed but the bank is not in a position to check the authenticity of the endorser because probably the endorser is not a customer of the bank. A cheque written to a "Bearer" or to "Ismet Ustuner or Bearer" does not have to be endorsed by Ismet Ustuner.

It is normal practice in UK to have the two parallel lines and A/C payee actually printed on the cheque. So UK cheques are motly "Account Payee only" but not necessarrily all.

In Turkey there is no such thing

ctd.

as a crossing and indeed some bankers there may take the two lines to mean that the cheque has been cancelled.
