We are travelling for the first time on Turkish Airlines Manchester -Istanbul-Ercan and was wondering if you have to collect your baggage at Istanbul after the Manchester -Istanbul flight as a change of plane is required or will the baggage be transferred automatically. The waiting time between flights outward is one hour on return one hour thirty minutes and we are wondering if this is ample time. Tony.

Only flown once with Turkish Airlines on that route. Had a 4 hour wait in Istanbul but didn't have to bother with luggage. This was transferred automaticlly.

If you're thinking of having a drink in the airport, take plenty of money, prices unbelievable.

OK on plane though, you don't have to chase the trolley dollies like on KTHY

Baggage will be transferred automatically

You should be given two boarding passes when you check in at Manchester. The second one is for your flight from Istanbul to Ercan

When you arrive at Istanbul go direct to departure lounge. You are not required to go through immigration.

You can get your baggage checked straight through. Mention when you check in that the connection is tight for time. Collect both boarding passes. At Ataturk head towards transfer desk then head up the escalator, just to left hand side of desk to gates, thay will check boarding pass to allow you transit. Been through many times and no probs.

It is easy this way but not so simple going back! On the way back you have to join a que to have your passport checked and only then can you join another que to get your boarding pass for the Istan/Mcn leg of your trip. Keep your eyes open as you walk from arrivals towards departures (this is only on the way back to UK!) and you will see on your right some small signs and a roped off area where people are waiting to be checked - normaly the lanes in the roped off area are marked with the destinations so you can't get it wrong. If you try to go straight to the counter to get your boarding pass they will only turn you away unless you have a GAS sticker on the back of your passport.

Luggage transfer in both directions is done for you so no problems there.

Keep your eyes on the information displays all the time as they have a habit of changing the departure gates!

Do not leave the airport or you have to buy a visa to get back in!

HI Tony

My son flew the same flight path back in August, you stop on the plane in Istanbul and so do your bags you will then have a wait of about an hour while the swap crew over and they allow new passengers on there might be a passport check as well but not always.

NOTE

Always keep your seat tickets handy some times they double book the seats and if you were in them from manchester then you have priority.

Good luck

We too are flying for the first time with TA same route as you next Sat. Looking forward to the change. When are you going? Have always used CTA until last flight back to Manchester...really poor.

Tony, If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your tickets and which site/travel agent did you go through? I am having a horrendous time finding flights for October.

Msg 9 - Cyprusquest - there are all sorts of wrinkles and we can help.

Enough members know we try hard and have given some excelent bargains (not always the best but we try) plus you can book flights through Opodo, JTA, Monarch etc. as well as car parking, trains, coaches, car hire, ferries and more all via our web site http://www.flightholiday.co.uk (the travel agent on line).

I have been trying to tell the BB that we offer Turksh as well as CTA and Pegasus with a little bit more (service & some knowledge) for quite a long time.

We try to get it right so always take an option or any price quoted is not correct. Some people do not want to give the details so we can't / will not help without them.

Dave (borodave)

Be careful as it sounds like you are selling tickets but are just being helpful and if so (even without profit) you can be in trouble with insurance and bonding etc under UK law.

Not trying to stop you or moan but just asking you to be aware both for yourself and for others; travel is a very tricky trade.

If you are on CTA and they change the flight to Sky you wont be getting any drinks with your meal that's for sure.

Where is the duty free these days on CTA ?

Whats the point of having a duty free magazine in your seat when they offer nothing to buy or was this an one off on our flight?

Hi

We have booked flights with TA on email so have eticket. Understand that we can select and book seats online 24 hrs before flight and would like to do that, but just a bit worried about actually getting boarding cards...has anyone done this and can advise if it's just best to check in at Manchester as usual?

Thanks Julie

£191 pp (less then tax added made it this) in April with Pegasus, did it on line. Though I see they now charge for extra bags even if within weight!! Does this 'extra' mean they count hand luggage does anyone know?

In theory one bag in the cabin one the hold is the rule. Extras in the hold are to be charged.
