I know the allowance from Manchester to Ercan is 20kg in the hold and 8kg hand luggage.

What I need to know is if the 20kg hold luggage can be split between 2 bags without penalty.

Cheers

Tom at IAH is the best bloke to answer that, but don't worry, if you have to pay, you'll soon make it up on the free drinks.

Not like KTHY, TA know how to look after a passenger.

What kind of drinks would that be. I can't do alcohol as I am driving at the other end and it would be very naughty to drink and drive. Saying that the wife could drive, do they do whisky?

THY's baggage allowance from Heathrow is 23kg in the hold and 8kg hand baggage. They are always very good about splitting allowances between travellers. The only limit on sharing the allowance is max 32kg per items. In my experience by far the best carrier to Ercan and, with Star Alliance miles and no extras, not really any more expensive.

They do everything, ask for two, they ask if you want three.

Tony - thanks for the recomendation. Come and buy from us sometime?

This one is a little more difficult. When I use Turkish from Birmingham* I work on a 20Kg allowance. (This might be wrong and it might be the 23 mentioned in Msg 5.)

If you get a Miles and Smiles card andf have sufficient miles on it you can acually get an extra 10 Kg free.

* I reckon the total cost of flights, parking, fuel etc when flying from Stansted from the Forest of Dean is as much or more than flying from BHX.

I flew TK from Manchester last month. My ticket said allowance was 23kg. When I checked in my case was 28.5kg. The young lady did not bat an eyelid and neither did she charge me extra.

Wonderful airline!

Dusterbruce - it depends on the check in staff and I suspect how many went through underweight before you.

Tom

I weigh 9st. I know they would have been in their rights to charge me excess baggage, but I would have wanted to know why the 18stone guy sat next to me had not been charged! They would also have lost a regular customer.

Tony - did you put him on the scales? Airlines will work on an average passenger weight I'm not sure what it is but it will be more than your just over 57 Kg

I'm sure the airline would be sad to lose you but "rules is rules" and for the rest of us mortals I would always say; never trust to luck and just be happy when they are nice to you about excess weight.

You missed my point. I wasnt complaining. I arrived at Manchester expecting to pay a bit extra and was pleasantly surprised not having to do so. Like I said, wonderful airline!

Flying in two weeks from Manchester. Although their website says 20kg, my ticket clearly states 23kg, so that's what I'm going with.

I actually got a nice email of Turkish Airlines (UK) informing me that the luggage allowance was 23kg and could be split over 2 bags.

I am taking a copy of said email to the airport in case any questions are asked.
