Wot?? No wage as well! My mother-in-law (now 82 years old) still works in UK in a similar position. Gets rent free, all found, plus £300 a week salary. For a gent 10 years her senior.

CHEAP SKATE!

Dear David I have to say i think your offer is a good one and its a shame a few poeple seem to want to take the piss, take no notice,i'm sure somebody will come along and a suitable arrangement will be established, good luck to you.

To be honest i dont blame you one little bit in trying to make your life a bit more comfortable and i'm sure theres a lady out there thats prepared to do a few chores for a rent free life!

Well I was not "taking the piss" all jobs deserve a wage, live in or not, rent free or not. Rent free only costs the guy nothing of course. I was not suggesting £300 a week here, but SOME wage would be deserved and I think should be expected. Friends of ours, a couple, have just retired here - he was a groundsman for a large estate in Surrey near Godalming, his wife prepared meals and cleaned for the (millionaires) owners. They were provided with a 3 bedroom house (used to be the gate lodge). All found. They only had to buy their food - no bills. Salary £18K pa too.

GET REAL

Geoff message 13. Agree with you. It's all very well taking on a job like this, with all found, but a person obviously has to have money to live on. Perhaps the gentleman is looking for someone who is in receipt of some sort of pension?

What does "all found" mean - would you consider a married couple for the job?

I hope he finds someone; however all I am saying is that he is looking for a housekeper, and that person deserves a wage/salary - certainly more than just "rent free". Don't forget a WIFE inherits, a housekeeper does not.

Seems a great offer to me.

I hope he gets no time wasters applying, with women that do not know how to clean/iron, or are not able to prepare a proper wholsome meal for this chap.

He is throwing in en-suite to boot....he could give her a small salary, but this may spoil her.

good luck dewgreen, let us know how you get on. May think of advertising the same kind of position myself in the near future.....

Even an au pair gets paid and they normally get a car thrown in as well. Own room and en-suite would be the minimum. This is a housekeepers job and as such should also have her own lounge (where do you expect her to go when not in bed?), and of course a payment. Who is going to shop for the food that needs cooking? will she get a car to do this? I think a little more thought is needed and else worded differently.
