Constantly leaking, have cleaned around sealing area, is there a quick fix or is it better to replace with a ballc0ck system?

Thanks

Ours leaks as well, you need to take the toliet top off for a few days and clean on the inside of the flappy bit, and then make sure that when you pull the string you pull it directly upwards. It worked for us anyway

I know that the plumber Ronnies Furniture use fits these 'economy' - i.e. double flush = normal and economy.

If you want to really save water, this is the best way.

He's done a lot of expat work and is totally honest and very reasonable - best give Ronnies (Kadir) a ring!

Get their phone number from their website - sorry, don't have it handy.

We have heavier flapper valves available which usually fix this problem.

Call me on 0533 836 7094 or find us at Lambousa Market on Saterday when I will have some with me.

Perhaps you should check something else first.

Turn off the water to the cistern, remove the cistern lid, take off the flapper valve. Then flap the remaining water down the hole till you get to the point where no water can overflow on its' own down the hole. When it has settled if you still have water trickling down the lavatory pan the the seal between the stem and the cistern has gone. If that is the case you will need to replace the whole flapper assembly.

Make sure that the ballcock float doesn't have any water in it. I tried the weights and heavier flap, nothing worked until I noticed that the float had negative buoyancy. Easy to miss when the cistern is empty. If it is taking water, put some sealant on the threads.

I have found that if it is the flapper valve that is not sealing then remove the flapper valve and clean the surrounding area of the orifice (nice word!) and then wipe vaseline around the lip of the orifice and underneath the sealing area of the flapper valve and that should do the trick.

It's difficult to imagine that anything so simple could be so infuriating.

Another issue can sometimes be that where there is a plastic pipe from the inflow going down to the bottom of the cistern and the flow is heavy the water can get under the flapper and force it up enough to make it leak when the cistern is filling. Move the pipe away, particularly where the stem has been put so the flapper is on the side nearest the water inflow.

I solved mine by tying a lead fishing weight (using copper wire) to the flapper.Seems ok now.
