Decided to stray from my usual dog walk today normally round by Merit/Mare Monte and up by Alsancak Football Stadium where there is so much litter all over. Changed direction down to Mosquito Beach - what a disgrace the area should be condemned, especially the swimming pool which is full up to the rim with green sludge - no wonder the mossies are out in force! Wonder what the visitors would think staying at the so called 5* Merit next door - what are the Alsancak Beledeyesi doing?????

Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.

Pick up your BLOODY LITTER !

Cypriots dont seem to care but then question why more tourists dont make return trips

So right they are so quick when complaining to us and taking the money lets see what they do with all the money collected in.

Thanks to the young boy of 10 for his hard work, well done.

I agree take your bloody litter home with you, what are you animals, you belong in a pigsty

The waste disposal bin that was at the top of steps to Mare Monte beach has mysteriously disappeared - now the rubbish will definately get worse!

I met a couple on holiday having a drive out along the beautiful coast road to Kayalar, they stopped to ask directions and we got chatting, they thought the island was beautiful but all they kept talking about was the filth and the endless litter, needless to say they won't be back !!

How many other visitors think the same ?

What does it take to make the litter droppers (99 % Turks/ TC ) change their habits ?

I just live in hope that things will change before I die !

500 euro fine in the south for anyone caught - perhaps we could put some signs up ourselves here - doesnt take much does it - quick enough to install speed cameras! Catch the culprits and make them do community service to pick up others garbage

Nothing will change until the Government/local council's change their attitude. There needs to be Government campaigns and hefty fines if people are caught - it would be a start! It's all about educating the locals.

I saw a council worker, in a council truck, chuck his fag packet and water bottle out of his vehicle window driving down the raod a couple of weeks back. Going by the stuff in the back of the truck these are the guys that cut back the roadside when it gets overgrown and I pressume pick up the litter. I've even seem the police throwing litter - what hope is there?!?!?

We had many good holidays there too. Looks as though the rooms are now being rented out to students and local workers, it's a real mess and such a shame. I would hate to live down there.

In defence of the Cypriots they are not the only ones that drop litter here. On more than one occasion during the summer I have witnessed holiday makers throwing bin bags from their cars into the nearby olive groves. Twice I got their registration found they were staying in nearby apartments and dumped their rubbish back to them.

Come on Chris !!

You know as well as I do that any litter dropped by holiday makers is a drop in the ocean compared to the year round campaign of TRNC ruination being carried out by the Cypriots and the Turks.

If you have any dout, have a drive out to the beach where the ( now graffiti covered ) maronite chuch is, between Kayalar and Sadrazamkoy. I guarantee it will make you feel sick, another beautiful place ruined, bottles, plastic and glass general litter and USED nappies !!

This beach is not used by tourists.
