head line quote. ( i wont be risking northen exposure in cyprus again )

I ASSUME that adrian phillips must have been wearing a pair of rose timted

sunglasses in his search for the"undiscouvered beauty" of northen cyprus(

"breakthrough.opens up cyprus that time forgot"may 3) when i visited last

november, i did indeed come across stunning landscapes, empty beaches and

friendly people. but to describe the region as "unspoilt by the 21st century" is

totally misleading.the ugly trappings of tourism are to be found everywhere.

take the magnificent village of bellapais, for instance i tried to admire it but

could not move for hoards of sightseers and traffic.kyrenia is a beautiful spot.

but did adrian fail to notice the plethora of tacky souveniers ships and the

constant harassment of passers-by? "cheaper than ASDA" one trader was

boasting.worst of all is the garish casino, which is open night and day.

indeed, the unregulated legal system has allowed such places to spring up

all over the place.in future. i shall be sticking to the south of this captivating

island in the sun. end quote .there"s allways one isn"t there

you just cant please some people.

I'm sorry for this guy.

We all know Bellapais can be busy some times, maybe most of the time. Thats because it's a nice place.

"Cheaper than ASDA", well I first saw that in Turkey, no offense to Turkey, but you do get that in some tourist spots around the world. Try going to Morrocco and coming away with less that 3 camels for the wife....................

At least we don't get endless film crews trawling the streets of Lapta looking for girls with their T*TS out and goading fights with the lager loats, just for a good story, like they continue to do in Ayia Napa.

Give me the north anyday.

'hoards of sightseers' in NC? In November?

oh and of course I'd forgotten that the South is not tacky. Obviously not Aya Napa. The only place that I can remember being approached is in Girne harbour for the restaurants which gets me a little annoyed. No way have I experienced 'constant harassment' in NC.

We were in N.C. last November and all I can say is that man must have been in a different country to us!! We had dinner in Bellapais one evening and it felt like we were the only tourists there, it was so quiet we were able to walk around unhindered by anyone. And there was practically no traffic. As for tacky souvenir shops in Kyrenia - We couldn't find one, and believe me I looked. and I have to say we were never harassed in any way when we were there

I was in TBV, Girne, Nicosia etc. in November & like others say it was pretty

quiet. We hear so many reports of Aya Napia horrors (tourists) & the worst

hotel I have ever been in was in Larnaca en route from AbuDhabi. My friend

struggled with cases & 2 small children while a young man (staff) stood idly by

while we tried to get through the doors. Anyway, I never read the Express as

I think it has a poor standard of journalism, likewise readers! (sorry)

So annoying, those hookers at the old harbour. as residents we would like to be able to go all year round but being harrassed to enter their bars for food or drink is off-putting. We only now go when we have visitors, to show them the sights. It's a shame that the area has been usurped by the harbour businesses.

The only truth in his report is his comments regarding the garish casino. Anyone seen the Pia Bella Casino at night? Does look as if it would be more at home on Blackpool sea front. Other than that I feel it totally misrepresents the north.

I have to jump on board and say that we have never been harassed by anyone in NC - this 'cheap as ASDA' is international I'm afraid - we heard it in Petra (Jorda) last month - such a shame - puts me right off!!!

If that guy would only tell us where he goes for his holidays in S Cyprus that is a place of stunning landscape, plenty of restaurants, no tacky shops, no tourist so obviously a hotel all to himself. In his dreams.

You've really upset me now Simbas. Me, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law were likened to Charlie's Angels two weeks ago in the Harbour and I really believed him!!

Joking aside, I actually know the young man in question and whilst he does his best to get customers in to the bar/restaurant (the one at the sea wall end of the harbour that goes up the hill towards the back streets) he really isn't that pushy and you only have to say no thanks and walk on. I'm totally amazed that the man in the Express thinks the North is more tacky than the South. I wonder what his guide dog thought of it???

The issue re the harbour is a shame. It's a loverly spot. I've been put off by the constant approaches from restuarant waiters and then of course the prices. If they lowered their prices there would be no need to tout for business.

Hi All,

Maybe we should bombard the express with emails as i think the guy who wrote the article has just written it to put down the north,

Paul.

hi all, another comment, on north cyprus.(quote.NORTHERN CYPRUS PROVIDES

HAVEN OF PEACE AND BEAUTY,what a great shame your correspondent David

Allen, did not get to see the best part of Northen Cyprus-the completely

unspoilt Karpaz with its pristine, near deserted beaches and beautiful coastline.

(Letters, may 6) he could even have spent a night slumbering under the stars

in accomodation at one of the small beach restaurants, visited the turtle

conservation area known as Golden Beach and swum from the soft,sandy.beaches.yes, bellapais is busy but not spoilt, while Kyrenia is

probably the prettiest harbour in the mediterranean.the casinos provide much-

needed income, and cause no disturbance or noise, unlike Ayia Napa in the

south.Paphos has become a sprawl of hotels and housing.Oh, give me the

North any day of the Week.( un quote) just another point of view but this time

more Favourable.

hi wyn, whens the peasent shooting season begin, have a nice day all.

Hi Cruggs,

Having worked on several shooting estates in my career, I can tell you that the pheasant shooting season is from November to 1st February. I hope those pheasants that Wynn has been making sandwiches from, came out of the freezer lol, or he's in trouble. Have a good day everyone.

Now hang on!!

Whats all this about black pudding? I'll have a double! Nearly closing time!

It was Watty that was on pheasant sandwiches. It was Watty that was going to have peasants to pull his sit on lawnmower.

I WAS THE GUY that lived on crumbs from the table in the Directors mess. I think the Government should have a referendum on this!.. There again, I think the Government should have a referendum on who is running the Country!

Is there time for one for the road? I'll have a double!

Disgraceful,
