About a fortnight ago we noticed a young female pointer near to starvation roaming the streets near our house. She was very timid, but not aggressive towards us or our own dog (male staffy).

We gave food and water out of simple charity, as we do not particularly need another dog just now.

After an email and phonecall to Kyrenia animal rescue, she was collected by their van and taken to the rescue centre - being a priority because she is pregnant.

Having seen several posts on this forum slagging off KAR for their inability to accept all and every dog/cat/whatever which people have abandoned or tired of, it's good to be able to give credit where it is due for their ongoing struggle.

Please support KAR at their Xmas Bazaar this Saturday at Teachers Hotel (Girne, not far from Pia Bella) doors open 10am on 12 December 2009.

What a brilliant post for KAR.

Yes many people knock them, but they are not a "bottomless pit" and they can only do as much as they can accommodate. Without KAR, the lives of animals in NC would be so bleak. KAR make a difference. They are not miracle workers, but they do their best, and that is all anyone can ask of them.

So lets stop knocking and lets start supporting.

I dont live in NC. But I do support KAR.

Indeed, it's good to see a positive posting about KAR. Good luck at your fundraising Bazaar on Saturday.

I wonder how animals in need are helped by this bitter fighting about KAR in way too many threads. Become a (life time) member and campaign to change the rules if you don't agree with them. That's how democracy works - everywhere in this world.

DC I have much respect for you but none for KAR, as far as I am concerned they are corrupt and I will never support a charity that turns away abandoned animals unless money changes hands.

KAR Christmas Bazaar Saturday Dec 12th. 10am at Teachers Hotel Kyrenia. Come along and join in the festivities. Apart from all the usual Xmas Fayre there will be bric- a-brac/books/clothes etc. Grab yourself a bargain just in time for Xmas.

There will also be live music as Starfever have kindly offered to come along and sing a few songs.

If you have evidence of corruption then publish it. I am sure that everyone here would be interested to see it.

Let us try and imagine what North Cyprus would be like if we did not have any Animal Rescue groups.

We would surely see a vast increase in roaming packs of wild/stray dogs.

On the other hand if there wasn't the voluntary sector here to do the dirty work the Government would surely have to do something.

Have to totally agree with you.

Dee....please provide your evidence for us all to see.

I for one am fed up with every thread about KAR being slated by you.

As much as I believe in everyone having a view point you will not change any system unless you are part of it.

=> Hurry, Dee! Tell your neighbour that you happen to know a certain Dutchman who can do the job much cheaper and, well, know what I mean? I sell 'em to Liz...

"KAR will only take animals if money changes hands that is corrupt IMO..get it! "

Not true

We have had 6 kittens rescued from the villa next door, my neighbour two doors away found a young dog in his garden. In both cases KAR came out and took the animals away and not a single lira changed hands.

In fact the original post talks of a young pointer being taken by KAR, no mention of any money being handed over there either.

I am sorry Dee, but I find it very hard to swallow that your neighbour paid £1000 to have some puppies taken away. A one line post is not PROOF, it is an allegation. Proof would be a receipt of some sort, the name of the person who received the money etc etc - I am sure that your neighbour would not hand over £1000 without getting a receipt (I know that I wouldn't).

This thread is on very thin ice and nothing good can come out of it for animals. Why don't we call it a day and don't enlarge the animosity between people who mean well for animals - albeit each in his/her own way. (I may sound as a self-styled moderator, sorry, but I'm serious. There's enough to do on our field of interest, animals in need. Unity can help some animals. Please stop this thread.)

what would a 1000 pound donation from Arapkoy prove? And even if they did come pick them up after he offered a donation, it's hardly proof that they won't ever take animals without cash. I don't know anyone dumb enough to just give 1000 pounds in exchange for taking a few dogs. That hardly seems like a reasonable fee that KAR could just charge anyone who wanted to hand in dogs. If I were to offer that kind of money it would be to a cause I genuinely believed in, not because someone said I had to pay that much.

You are right, too many untruths and accusations and some members that appear to have lost the plot.

This thread is in dire need of being closed, any objections anyone?

I am in total agreement. However, I must point out that I bear no animosity towards those who are anti-KAR, after all they are entitled to their opinion as much as I am entitled to mine. What I do object to is the inference that the only solution is to euthanise healthy animals and that KAR should be responsible for doing this.

If people feel passionately that euthanising (culling) stray animals is the solution, then get together with like-minded people and either lobby the government to conduct a cull, collect in the animals and arrange for a vet to do the job, or even DIY.

However, please do not expect the people at KAR to do the job for you - it goes against what they stand for. They are an animal rescue centre, not an animal culling centre.

Right, thats enough from me. Time for dinner.

It is sad to see (as ever ) a positive post about KAR ruined by unsubstansiated posts!!!

KAR took a very ill cat from where I work and put her to sleep - no money exchanged hands

10 cats from my home ( village cats that I feed now )

and are going to come and take another 5 or 6 ( which i will then feed too ) and no money has been asked for or demanded

I know some people dont like the return policy for animals - but it works !!!!!!

Please remember all the good work KAR do instead of always looking for the bad in people and what they do!!!!
