I am currently convalescing after "Open Wallet Surgery" ie. i went to tax my car today.. As I waited in line I heard several people saying as they departed how much less they paid for taxing their vehicles and I thought this sounds promising 'til got to the counter and the clerk the asked for 1,735 TL (720 odd Quid ..) What !!!! the tax on it last year was 1,560TL which was bad enough.. don't where government the gets the idea I've got loads of lolly my truck, a 3litre Bighorn diesel , is a 14 year old mobile junk yard!!!!! maybe robbing peter to pay paul ?????

Oh well, not to worry, a couple of days rest and the odd bottle of brandy or two (or three) and the shock should wear off....I came out here to retire but think maybe I should dig my old guitar out of the pile, scrape the rust off the strings, get back on the road again and earn some loot ?????

nOT %100 ON THIS BUT THE SIZE OF YOUR ENGINE AND THE AGE OF THE CAR DOES MAKE DIFFERENCE.

I have 2 year old dual cabin pick up,2.5 litre, and my road tax on that is about half of yours.

May be it is time to change it for a smaller one.

Our vehicle is exactly the same as yours. Taxed it yesterday, 1171tl. Still expensive, but last year was 1500tl

Do you think you might have had to pay a penalty for late payment maybe?

LAYBY LIL, Yorgozlu's duel cab is classed as a commercial vehicle and yours as a private vehicle, thats why his is half the money, but he is rite what he says, get a smaller car, a 1400 cc car is a couple of hundred lire, give or take.

I would think what we paid was about right because the 1500 we paid last year included a month`s penalty because we bought the car in February and there was a month`s tax owing on it. Mrs W

The weight of the vehicle makes all the difference that's why your Bigbigbighorn is so expensive! You need to get something lighter.

Totally agree with J&J. It's the weight that counts. The engine size is not relevant except that it probably increases the weight of the vehicle. The other thing that makes a big difference is the fuel, petrol or diesel & the age of the vehicle. There are discounts for vehicles more than 5 yrs old & again at more than 10 yrs old.

To sum up.

Brand New very heavy diesel 4 x 4. Lots of dosh.

Very Old & light weight petrol car. Very cheapo for Road tax.

Just to add to what Scruff says, the age of the vehicle depends on when (if) it was imported. For example my car is 2004 but first registered here in 2007 so the tax office classes it as being new in 2007.
