Hi when we holidayed last year in Northern Cyprus near Alcansak , we found lots of beaches but were so dissapointed at how dangerous they were because of the litter et. We eventually found the Camelot Beach Club and paid for the priveledge as they were just doing it up again and at least we got to swim in the sea! We are hoping to visit again this year and although I have been looking on here , where is a decent clean preferably free beach. I know the mare mont is not acessible and I doubt anything has been done their since llast May when security were there and the place was closed down!!! It would be so nice to walk and feel the sand between my toes and not glas or bottle tops!!!Any reccomendations, we hoping to stay close to lapta this time round

Cheers

Rosies, just past the LA Hotel it is a small beach but clean. Think if buy a coffee of something you can go on beach all day, dont know what they charge for sunbeds, but our grandkids like it there...

The Mare Monte beach is accessable and FOC run by Alsancak Belediyesi, well it was October 2009 although there was a lot of seaweed on it, but that comes and goes.

There were sunbeds and umbrellas

The beaches in front of the Karsiyaka beach restaurants are ok. Horseshoe bay is lovely too. Follow the road round from Karsiyaka, first right and follow that rd round the coast a bit (lovely ride out) its signposted on the right.

If you have transport, go through Alsancak and turn down to the Mercure Hotel - just before the hotel you will see Kervansay Pizza Garden. In front of the restaurant there is a path down to a great beach - very clean and nice. Sunbeds are just 3 YTL. Second, go east of Girne along the coast road - on the right there is a sign to Lara Beach - nice, clean sandy cove with a taverna and sunbeds - 5YTL. Finally, keep heading east to Alagadi and you will find a huge sandy beach (where the turtles nest) - this was kept very clean in 2009 (mainly thanks to the students on the turtle project)- so lets hope they keep it up this year.

Is this beach near the Mercure the one we were disgusted with last year, horrible dirty brown sand, full of cigarette ends and bits of plastic,it had the big concrete jetty bit next to it .If it is I wouldn't go there ,cheap but crap beyond belief. That was the opinion of 8 of us who pitched up last June.

How about the beach at Thalassa resort, think thats going to look stunning in 6 months !
