I am going on my first trip to North Cyprus and having looked at various locations, one of my short list is Sunny Beach, Galip's Cove, Lapta.

The description on the site ( http://www.north-cyprus.com/sunny-beach/) sounds great but I cannot locate it on Google Earth and I would like to know if anyone has any knowledge of the resort and surrounding areas.

I have a few questions on it -

What is the beach like, sandy, rocky or stoney?

What choice of restaurants etc within walking distance?

Do I need a car for my full stay?

How much will a taxi be from Larnaca?

Any other advice would be helpful.

Many thanks.

Not 100% sure this place is open? I know it usually opens just through the summer, but drove down there a few weeks back and it was all closed up still.

The beach is nice there, a nice sheltered private cove bit sandy. There is an onsite bar that used to do snacks etc.

The closest hotel is the Sempati, with bar etc. Also a couple of other bars within walking distance, JK's and Aphrodite.

A car is prob a good idea but you can walk to main road to get bus (5 min walk).

You can find Hotel Sempati on google earth and just go down bit more towards the sea!! and there is Sunny Beach!

here are co-ordinates for Hotel Sempati

Maps.google.com/maps/ ms?msa=0&msid=115838776999669378731.00043e6a09918830a66f2&output=kml

Follow road to sea and you will see small cove with buildings and swimming pool.

John and I stayed there two years ago, its run by Mr Erdil, very basic, but good as a base if you want to look around.

Many thanks to all. I've found it on Google Earth! Are there any good restaurants in the vicinity or is it just the hotel?

Great pictures Nige. You didn't look too good after swerving that dog. Glad you have retained your good looks

Nige

Thank you for the pictures, I think this will convince the better half and we will be there next year for two weeks in May. I know it's a long way ahead but it pays to plan early. Once again thanks for being a great help.

Hi Guys,

I too am looking at staying in Sunny Beach with my husband and two children as it looks like our apartment is not going to be finished in time.

I have been told that it is "basic", but am just wondering how basic?! It will only really be a base as we will have a car, so as long as children will be pretty happy there it might do us. I am also not sure if to go for a bungalow or a larger apartment? Any advice would help! Cheers.
