I flew from Manchester to Ercan last week and was 2 kilo's overweight on my suitcase. I had no way of weighing it before going to the airport. I was charge £14 (£7 per kilo) I know of several people who have gone through with over 30 kilo's and not been charged so why me? Obviously my face did not fit that morning or someone had already upset her and I was unfortunate. I am just telling you this in case you come up against this woman in Manchester Airport. By the way, the flight was only about a 1/3 full.

Just pop your case on the bathroom scales before heading to the airport. Could save you a lot of dosh and keep the blood pressure in check.

Flying out of the new LCA terminal before Xmas, some where complaining they'd been charged 11euro per kg for every kg over the 20kg allowed. One bloke had to stump up almost hundred euro. I believe they are tightening up and that was the only time I'd ever been asked to have my hand baggage weighed too. (10kg limit on that)

In December there was a woman going from one check in to the other checking baggage weight and sending those over the weight to an office to pay, my case was underweight but my hand luggage was over by 2kg she said I had to pay, I argued that if my suitcase had not already gone through I could have put that 2kg in there, she let me through. Coming back through Ercan they never even weighed the luggage it didn't even go on a scale.

We flew Man-Ecn last Saturday. While I was paying the excess baggage charge at the ticket desk, the check-in supervisor came over and asked one of her colleagues at the desk if she had seen "Last week's excess baggage commission sheet"!!!!!!!!!!! Say no more!

Flight was only about a third full to Antalya, but then picked up what appeared to be a couple of

sports teams -I have never seen so much hand baggage, there was hardly enoough room in the overhead lockers for it all.

Each airline has different weights, which can be very confusing. Pegasus has been quite vigilant in keeping to 8kg for hand luggage recently. However, I came back Monarch this time and it was 10kg, but they weighed everything very carefully.

last time I was in the UK, I bought a hand held luggage scale (fits in my handbag) well worth the very low price of £2.99. I weighed both our cases 25kilo each (I always use all my allowance). When I got to Manchester, the check in girl said "well done", both cases spot on!! x

Everon - useful but they do tend to become inacurate so err on the side of caution.

Yes agree with last message, my luggage scales were out by about 2 kilos + to the airport scales. I asked the check in girl if she could guarantee their scales were correct and she backed down and let me off the excess charge! I have now invested in a digital set of scalws, £15 but a lot easier to operate.

I agree with with Flightholiday. My bags weighed 23 kgs on my scales at home but by the time they got to the airport they had mysteriously gained 3 kgs. The conversation that followed went something like this:

"You'll need to pay £6 excess baggage to take this bag on the plane."

"No I won't, your scales are wrong. At home it is 2 kilos under the limit."

"Your home scales are not as accurate as ours sir. They are checked daily."

My partners bag was 24 kgs and we checked in at seperate check in desks. Their bag weighed 23kgs. Thus losing a kilo somewhere. When I spotted this I moved my bags to my partners check-in desk scale. Miraculously it weighed 22kgs. The desk clerks looked at each other. Who's was right? Without some much of an apology I was asked to bring my bags back to the 1st check in desk and they were tagged and sent on their way.

The desk clerk was obviously annoyed as they marked my boarding card so that I would be singled out at Sercurity for special treatment.

How did they do that Timothy, and what special treatment did you receive?

They marked my boarding card with symbols and when I got to show my passport the first thing he looked at was my boarding card. Without even opening my passport he called over a colleague who personally took me to the front of the queue, asked me to remove my jacket, watch, jewelery and shoes and put them through the x ray machine. I was then asked if I minded being patted down and a hand held metal detector was wanded over my body.

I was asked where I was flying to. Which company I was flying with. How I had booked my ticket. How long I expected to away from the UK.

There is one other possibility. It could have been because I didn't have any hand baggage but doubt it as I never travel with hand baggage, as I generally forget to pick it up and cause chaos on the unattended bag front. I also find that getting through Security is much faster.

I never fly with hand baggage. As a matter of curiosity, what do you need that weighs 25KG?

It was when we finally moved from the UK to the TRNC.

Most of our clothes were packed and had gone in a container but that was some 6 weeks before we personally left the UK to take possesion of our property and as it was winter (February 2003) our clothes were winter woolies.

dozza67 £7 per Kilo? Lucky You!!!

Ryanair currently charge 20 £/€ per kilo "or part thereof" in excess charges. I have seen the check in sheets at Dublin Airport where the agents collect €3000 to €5000 each daily.

As the kind and wonderful employer Ryanair are, agents now have a target to reach on every shift - don't reach the target - find a new job!

This is the way of the future.

Ryan air , got me the other week at Knock Airport. Took hand luggage only 8ks , 10ks allowed . Measured my case with measurements allowed it was ok , wrote it down and took my measuring tape just in case . No problem flying out , coming back , they said my case was too big ? whipped out the measurements and my tape = size of case correct !! so why didn't my case fit into those contraptions they have to size your cases . Charged me 36euros ?????? i just paid up because so many people waiting , my husband was furious and would not have paid ! Have made a complaint , all i have had is a letter saying they acknowledge receipt of my letter and is it is being dealt with .

Message 15 - you are joking! I could double that if I did not have to pay and still have not anything to wear!

By the way my hand luggage is always up to the limit too.

i RETURNED FROM UK LAST WEEK AND TRAVELLED WITH PEGASUS AIRLINES. MY BAGGAGE WAS OVERWEIGHT BY THREE KILOS. THE WEIGHT FOR THE HAND LUGGAGE WAS 8 KILOS (I DID NOT HAVE ANY HAND LUGGAGE AT ALL) HOWEVER I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY OF GOING TO BUY A NEW BAG AND TAKING OUT 3 KILOS BUT NOT ALLOWED TO USE MY ALLOWANCE FROM THE HAND LUGGAGE. AS THIS ALL GOES ON THE SAME AIRCRAFT REGARDLESS OF WHERE, WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM. RESULT I HAD TO PAY £24.
