Quite a lot of people care according to the 'Rugby Wales to get back on track again this weekend' thread. And I have one pal who was trying all morning to get his TV sorted so he could watch the rugby. Do you imagine sports fans stop caring about their teams or the games if they move abroad?

R msg 7, Oleander from LARNACA (South Cyprus): (...) Do you imagine sports fans stop caring about their teams or the games if they move abroad? (...) => No, I don't. But there are dozens of special sites, based in the UK and elsewhere, where one can talk for hours about any sport ever invented. On a Northern Cyprus bulletin board a post like this is really ridiculous: "What A game, What A game, What A game". Such posts usually come from people who never ever have anything to say or add about Northern Cyprus. A lack of knowledge is excusable, a lack of interest in your host country is not.

DC With due respect, as a Welshman living abroad i have a lot of involvement with NC, That does not mean to say i can not celebrate the victory of a sport i love from the country of my birth. What on earth possesses you to say a lack of knowledge is excusable and to have a lack of interest in my host country, what planet are you on you dont even know me, now surely that must be ignorance itself on your part to make such a comment.

Kary44, You have every right to express passion when supporting your team i was the same last week when we beat the Welsh!!!! Perhaps the Dutch arent as passionate when it comes to sport appart from the odd dart player they don't have much to celebrate!!!! Great game but why didn't the Scots boot the ball into the stand when they had the chance?????

OK! OK! OK! Really not that important, is it? And now I leave this thread, because I'm going to watch a Dutch speedskater (Sven Kramer) win a gold medal in Vancouver... Rugby? Is it an Olympic sport? Tsk... Enjoy your evening!

RE msg 16, rowan: (...) DC, are you trying to tell us that you are not interested in things connected to your home land.??? (...) => Hardly anymore, indeed. I emigrated, I feel at home in my new country, TRNC. And if I want to discuss anything Dutch or want to express my feelings about some sports result I join a Dutch forum - and not a Northern Cyprus forum.

You are an exception then DC. Just because someone leaves the country they were born and grew up in to live abroad or even (as in my case) travel around all over, doesn't mean they lose all interest in their homeland or what is going on there, how their sports teams are doing. Most of us worked for 40 odd years in some profession in the country we left. Went to school, college and Uni there. And have lots of family and friends still there. Of course we are interested - especially in stuff that might be affecting family & friends. This is why, in most countries, you will find ex pats have formed clubs so they can meet up with each other. Ex service men clubs, Rotary, British Legion. And, in much the same way, as in the TRNC, lots of Brits get together to do things, or meet at the same bars and restaurants. I've never met anyone who was totally uninterested in the country they came from once they'd left it. Even if they didn't like it very much when they were there.

I've not met many Brits living in the TRNC who consider that they have 'emigrated'. Lots go back and forth to South and North Cyprus. Renewing by not staying more than 90 days or whatever it is. Most just don't live there all the time. Like a lot of the members on CY44, they are in the UK and they VISIT the TRNC to spend holidays in their homes there. On this forum I see lots of members mentioning when they will 'next be out'. And quite a lot mentioning that they are 'going back home'. By home they mean the UK.

Hans What a disingenuous person you can be. Some people don't care a damn about your bloody walks but refrain from saying so, likewise your passion is not for rugby (the Dutch male build couldn't take it!) so post elsewhere. Richard

Hans you underestimate the passion that some people feel for their National sides and Sports Personalities just as you with your passion for Cyprus history and indeed your self confessed interest in the Dutch Speed Skater. Surely a small number of posts or threads on sport don't make that much difference and as you and others have quite regularly said you aren't forced to reed them. Incidentally Rugby as an Olympic sport, it has been, America are the present champions, the seven aside version is included in the next Olympics. Hippo PS. One Welsh swallow doesn't make a summer, and France now look likely to take the championship, we wait in trepidation for today's result in Italy

What a great last 20 mins, how the jocks managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory only they will know ! Hans, you make yourself look like a complete t***, just keep off of the rugby threads, that will make everyone happy. Finally, The taffs aren't moaning about poor reffering today, that makes a change. Martin.
