Now that the BRS has announced it has a deal where people over 60 can get two year residencies, how many of those posting last week about they and their friends getting two years were sixty or over?

On the previous thread, I posted on msg 23 that I know of at least one person under 60 years old, who has been granted 2 year residency. See this message no. 23 on this thread.

Well done Itsadogslife! You may have gleaned from other postings that I refuse to up at the crack of dawn to apply for residency, but were I not going to have a try for permanent, I would take it - the two year one - but I think it is a littl,e iniquitous that for the same paper work and time, one has to pay 370tl cos it is for two years. The old only difference is the writing of the date on the visa - making 2012 instead ofc 2011. But as they say 'there is a cost to everything' and it saves a lot of hassle the following year.

But does it therefore look that eveyrone is being offered that. Good, cos that also takes the strain off the Immigration Department and cuts down with the numbers they have to process, which in turn could negate this ridiculous ealry morning queuing lark! So that makes more than just one good thing out of this new 2 year term.

Other countries give more. Australia gives 4, so N.Cyprus is just doing a bit of catching up.

My wife and I are over 60 ( too much ) but we have a friend who is under 60 and she got two year residency.

You do have to ask as they will not offer it and this is at the immigration office in Nicosia not at the police station who first process your application.

Not true that they don't offer 2 years. I know several who have been offered it without asking.

All the people that asked for it, had it refused. I would suggest that you wait to see if it is offered & only request it (but do not demand) if they do not offer. As we have been told on numerous occasions, Residency is not a "right" but is "granted".

We're well over 60 and we didnt demand, we just asked politely at Girne Police station if it was possible as we'd seen the cost in the paper. No one offered it when we went to Nicosia, wish they had - save another trip next year!!

My wife and I went this morning. Manager took UK residents to a diffent office where permit was completed and we left at 9.30am. Two year residency @ 370TL each providing you have a permanent address and contract of purchase. No Kocan required. Excellent service compared to the previous 5 years!

Good on yer, baldy. It looks as if they are starting to honour their word regarding British citizens and those of a certain age.

Glad some people are now getting good service. I did, but wanted others to get it too.

So let's hear more success stories.

As to the confusion over who gets 2 years, maybe as it is now a few weeks down the line from when it was first muted, it is now being sorted out and should run smoothly, now that it appears everyone knows it is happening. Sorry Mamachina - maybe next year. But of course they might move the goal posts again!

Ah well - 'This is Cyprus'

My question still remains - if you go for the two year option, how many stamps do you need in your passport before you can apply for permanent residency?

Sorry, Waddo, didn't realise that was the question. At the moment it is that when you have 6 stamps you can applyh for permanent residency. That is why I did NOT accept the two year, because I want to try for permanent so, it could be a waste of money to pay for two years as that owuld then take me into 7 as well.

So, I guess that if you already had 5 stamps, went today for your 6th, and were offered two yeaqrs, then you are in to seven, but if you had four stamps, I do not think that going for 2 would make you eligible for trying for permanent, you would have to wait until next year.

That sounds muddled, but I hope you know what I mean.

If only they could have an office in Girne dealing with residency, then we would be laughing, ah well, we can live in hope.

Just for info, I know that one of the questions to be put to Eroglu the other week was asking if it might be possible to have Immigration Offices in the maintowns of Kyrenia, Famagusta and Guzelyurt. You never know, the new government might think that could take some of the strain off Head Office.

After all, they do gradually move goalposts. I was able to get my Ins and OUts at Kyrenia, when before one HAD to go to Lefkosia.

So, slowly things are improving, but it does seem that not all the Civil Servants are aware of all the changes at the same time.

Some of the Civil Servants in Lefkosia need to study the meaning of the word Civil, that would be a start, one young lady I had the misfortune to deal with last year was downright rude and ignorant, but only to the English, and yes, she could speak the language very well.

Actually Stella yes I did, but she totally ignored me, and how many people applying for residency can speak fluent Turkish. Surely the point in having an English speaking person on duty is to deal with enquiries from English people and offer help and assistance.
