I will be requiring a bank account in North cypruswhich i will be using to pay water/electric bills and for access to money whilst on holiday. I would like a good internet service so i can transfer money from the UK etc.

If you go for Garanti bank be sure to give them your UK mobile number - when you log into online banking they send you a new pin no each time - if it goes to Turkcell phone you can't access it from UK - as I found out to my cost last time I went back to UK! Otherwise Garanti is really good for bill paying etc - can recommend them!

Creditwest bank are very good. They will automatically pay your utility bills for you.

Agree with Creditwest, very helpful staff.

In UK if you have a Halifax Bank Account, you can transfer money electronically for £9.50 regardless of how much you are sending. Best price I could find.

You set up monthly payment option with them and when the Kibtek or bellydancer bill are generated, they pay them on your behalf. Very good system,if you use the internet banking, you can also pay them manually, provided you have the amounts of course !!

Teatime,

The Nationwide Building Society charge nothing... as TRNC is within EEA and gets same treatment as EU countries...

They give a good exchange rate too...

Would not recommend Credit West as their Internet site is pants... even though the bank itself is good.

We have used TEB, Garanti, Credit West and Iktisat Banks etc. etc. but still find for this type of thing the HSBC is best as their internet banking site is the most flexible. It lets you set up your own direct debit arrangements so all the nonsense of bad customer service at the Girne branch need not affect you.

Groucho

I also use nationwide card but if one wants to transfer a large amount that is not so convenient.

I have also found Creditwest's internet banking to be OK.

HSBC internet banking is excellent but bear in mind they also send a new password to your mobile every time you log in so make sure you have your UK one registered.
