£20 notes with a picture of Edgar Elgar will no longer be legal tender after 30th June this year. Only notes with Adam Smith the Scottish economist will be accepted after this date.

Ironic when you think about it - Scottish economist on our £20 notes. Now which banks failed in the UK?

Clue - they all had the word Scotland in them.

I think it is terrible that the composer Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet that has given us so many fantastic pieces of music has been demoted from the £20 note for a boring economist who's region has given us our worst national debt ever

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Elgar

He was also a fervent Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter and regularly cycled to matches from his home in Worcester

compare this with Smith

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Smith

Boring

I would rather have an evening with pomp and circumstance than the wealth of nations

Sorry nurse only kidding its useful information for those with money under the mattress

'Northern Rock' doesn't have Scotland in it!

More importantly fake 100 TL notes are in circulation... they are such good fakes they even fool some bank staff.

They have all the watermarks and metal strip etc. but the paper is slightly too furry and not quite as shiny as it should be, other than that they are indistinguishable from the real thing.

If you get stuck with one you are stuck with it... as it's illegal to pass it on as it is in all countries.

Do you mean George Osborne MP?

George Osborne is the eldest son and heir of Sir Peter Osborne, 17th Baronet... a toff then! Originally named Gideon, he changed his name to George when he was 13.

Why would he be called 'oik'

i just had a vision of someone sat in jail doing time for a robbery and rubbing their dirty little hands, thinking that they would be okay when they got out in a few years time only to find that their booty was out of date!

Okay if you don't want a 'Scot' on the back of the £20 note. Who would you like to see on it?

I think maybe a better choice of Scot like Alexander Graham Bell or John Logie Baird.
