Good job the thieves at Ercan didn't open my case on arrival last Saturday as they might have been shocked at finding half a dead sheep inside!

this has happened to me twice, once coming from manchester to Ercan and returning another time, goods taken from case, and all they say is claim on your insurance, cart blanche for the thieves to continue there trade.

Hi All,

Why assume the thieves are at Ercan? It is just as likely that they are at Stansted!!

Thefts from hold baggage are nothing new and cigarettes are the most common item stolen. High value and light weight allied to the probability that the owner was over their limit for Customs making it less likely that they will report the theft.

I always advise people to NEVER put anything of significant value into their hold baggage. Likewise items that you may need urgently on arrival such as medecines, etc.

Approximately 0.003% of hold baggage fails to make it's final destination at first attempt. This may seem a small number, but at airports the size of Manchester, Stansted, or Gatwick this would equate to about 3000 bags annually each. The numbers at Heathrow Paris CDG, or Frankfurt FRA are multiples of this. Many bags are also lost never to be seen again.

So is it worth entrusting your jewellery, cash, or fags in a bag you are going to be separated from for several hours?

If it's in your hand luggage then it goes through the scanner.... lose it either way if it's over the limit.

Filthy habit give it up... you're only giving baggage handlers cancer...

Why pop ciggies in your case ? why not buy ciggies when arriving at the Ercan airport ? they are way cheaper at Ercan . Or have I missed something here ? just curious .

The baggage handlers thought they were doing you a favour, didnt want to increase your chances of ill health!!!! Look at it as how kind they were....

Why would thieves at Ercan take them, cigs are so cheap here. More likely to be thieves at UK end at £6 a pkt!
