At what time of the year are dog owners allowed to let their dogs run on the beach.

Or do they have to be on a lead at all times

Officially dogs are never allowed on the public beaches... this is a public health issue.

On or off the lead is irrelevant.

I would never let my dog off lead on a popular beach ( only isolated ones ) and I still "pick up." Not any area popular with the locals in fact. I'm paranoid about the poisoning.

Hi All,

At Aligadi the signs state that dogs ( along with a range of other thigns/ activities) are not allowed on the beach between April and October. I am sure if there was an 'official' ruling that dogs are never allowed, this would be stated on the sign. I know this is due to the Turtle Nesting etc. However, other public beaches tend to have their own signs. As Roblyn says, I think sometimes it is a matter of common sense. We only take ours to beaches rarely used by the public and always clear up after her.

Groucho, I would genuinely be interested where you got the information about dogs not being allowed on any public beaches. I don't want to put myself in a difficult position.

I think the main thing is for owners to take responsibility for their pets - if they are not well trained enough to be off the lead, keep them on. If they leave a chocolate parcel, pick it up!! If there are people on the beach - not everyone likes dogs - so steer clear!! Common sense...

I heard 18 years ago that it was illegal to take dogs on to any public beach.

Message 6, you are right. It is the law, no dogs, sheep or goats on the beaches. The fine used to be 7,000000 tl.
