I suggest the best and most scenic route is to follow the main road up to Besparmak Restaurant (just beyond KAR kennels and turn left. Follow the road for maybe 15 minutes and you will find the sign in a wooded picnic area. Park the car there and walk... about 15 minutes through track down through pine forest.

The monastery is about 100 meters from the North Cyprus Herbarium at Alevkayasi.

There are a couple of ways you could approach it. If you take the mountain pass from Catalkoy, turn left at the restaurant at the top. You eventually come to a picnic area where you have to do an almost U turn left down a track. If you get to a curved T junction, you've gone a bit too far.

If coming from the coast, take the turning for Karagac or Esentepe, whaichever you prefer, they eventually join together.

In all three cases, follow the signs for Alevkaysi.

I have some information about the monastery here. http://www.whatson-northcyprus.com/interest/kyrenia/sourp_magar.htm

We went there last September. The road from the picnic area car park was closed by a barrier, so we decided to walk down. Not too far, was a bit scared of 2 dogs on the loose. The monastery is in a very poor condition and not very safe we guessed that was why the road is closed
