If they are appearing from a wooden doorframe etc. you will probably find they have eaten all the wood away and the wood will have to be replaced. one of the pecularities of living in a hot climate. One tip I was given, regularly keep revarnishing the woodwork. Do not ignore them they will not go away, you have been warned!!.

We have had this problem for the past 3 years in our kitchen, they eat through anything. Spoken to the belediye who do not cover this problem in their free service however they are sending someone out on wednesday to have a look. The man my husband spoke to said you must get it treated, he dealt with 1 case where it cost 15.000 TL.

New Orleans has the Formosan Subterranean Termite. An infested house is quarantined while being treated. The termites literally eat your home if you do nothing. A termite inspection is required when selling one's house.

I mention this because the climates are similar and you may want to ask the inspector what type you are dealing with there. Here is a link to more information about maintenance and prevention. http://insects.tamu.edu/extension/bulletins/b-6080.html

You have such beautiful villas and homes, I hate to see you all have this problem now.

Good luck.

Loads appeared this morning from our outside wall, none inside fortunately. The sparrows soon picked them off. Isn't it amazing that they seem to emerge everywhere at the same time?

come on aylin i think you still need to get them checked out to find where the nest is, just because they are outside at the moment does not mean they will stay there.

Teresa - it was from a wall not attached to the house, we will keep an eye out for any emerging from any house walls inside or out. As a matter of interest, the article I read seemed to indicate that it was houses with wood in their construction that were a problem. Is that the case or are the reports above relating to reinforced concrete and brick constructions?

My house is concrete and as far as i know there is no wood, the first time i had these things they came up through the marble grouting and had eaten away part of the plaster. We filled this with sillicone. The following year they came through the wooden doorframe. will be contacting the builder tomorrow to find out if any wood was used under the floor but i am sure it is all concrete.

I am more then a little worried about this and can see it costing us big money to get rid of them.

Yes, you can have a wooden frame with brick exterior. I don't know if the millwork in a concrete home is enough for a termite problem or not? Where are all of those construction fellas when we need them?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Theresa.

Pest control people have been out and will be coming back today hopefully to treat the problem, they will remove the marble skirting and also the wooden doorframe dig down to see where the nest is or signs of the nest. The chemical they are using is 70 euros a ltr and they think we will need 2 ltrs but until they see underneath they cant say for sure. If you have this problem dont leave it as it will only get worse and will end up costing a fortune to put right.

Will post tonight and let you know what happens.

Friends of ours had similar situation . Their bugs were Carpenter ants who had eaten through door frame and wooden skirting

They treated them with Sertes a spray you can buy from supermarkets @ 5 lira.

Then located nest and sprayed that too ( found nest outside of bathroom window in atrium.

Hope you get sorted.

100% termites, skirting is off and also part of the wooden doorframe, looks like the nest is under the floor but had we left it another year then they would have worked their way through the whole doorframe.

The chemical is going to be put down under the floor and we will have to wait until next year to see the results.

The man has explained that even if you have them outside they need to be treated or they will come inside at some stage. They not only eat through the wood but they also feed on plaster.

If you have them call Beta Tek on 0392 4442010 or call into their office which is opposite Starling.

Please dont leave it as it will only get worse and end up costing you more.

Yes, FROG is the people you want to see. They are just above Smart Plus Furniture. Travelling from Girne towards Çatalköy, Just before Lemar of Çatalköy on your right. You can't miss it if you look for Smart Plus.
