Hello Folks! We are getting ready to gradually move from Azerbaijan to TRNC over the next few months. As our much-loved Subaru is a left-hand drive model, we'd planned to sell it, before moving, but that hasn't worked out so far. Also, having looked at various websites, and "For Sale" posts on this forum, I'm choking at the thought of throwing our car away for sweeties, compared to the cost of replacing it in TRNC. I'd appreciate any advice that anyone could offer on the costs & likely hassles of shipping the car over from the Caspian. Also, if anyone has made the journey by road, I'd be very keen to hear their thoughts on the experience. Last time we were over, I didn't see many LHD cars around, which rather surprised me. Is there any legal issue to be aware of?

Hope to see you all soon, regardless!

HotHippo

The TRNC banned the import of LHD vehicles some time ago.

I worked out in Baku for four years and retired 3 + years ago. Please feel free to e-mail me at cyprusdavegurr'@'gmail.com.

Regards

Well, that's that sorted out, and no time wasted! Somebody will be getting a real bargain here, in Baku, in the next few weeks!

Thanks very much for your rapid response, AJ, crushingly disappointing though it was!

Ah well - at least it will save me a fortune in paying Tara's speeding fines!

Does anyone know whether LHD cars can be brought in for a 12-month "visit"? Or are they banned completely?

i think you will find a 12 months visit is ok,just make sure the household goods if any are brought in 1 name and the car in another as in the wifes, you cant bring both in the same name and keep the car here 12 months.

Thanks very much for the information. I'll be over for a short visit in June, so I'll try to find out everything I need to know, while I'm there. Also, we are waiting for a quote for shipping the car, which will help me to make my mind up.

Hello Mike,

Our postings crossed in cyber-space. We're coming over on Sunday 6th June, for six nights, so we'll look you up then. We won't be staying on-site, as we don't haave the utilities hooked-up yet, but we'll be around a lot.

Cheers,

Eddie

No probs Eddie, maybe Vinera will knock up some Mantay or Plof or something, look forward to seeing you both. Bring your swimmers as the pool has been commissioned and is looking good

Great news Mike! We'll be ready for a dip, after shopping all day for furniture. Is the pool busy? We're looking forward to meeting all our new neighbours.

Cheers,

Eddie & Tara
