A friend of mine went to get a new Cyprus driving licence. She has an UK driving licence and when she went to the Tax Office to apply she was told she had to go to the Driving School situated behind the general hospital where they asked for 200tl,her passport and UK driving licence.

When I got my TRNC licence I just applied giving photo copies of my Passsport and Uk driving licence at the tax office.

Has anyone been to apply for a licence lately and had to go to a driving school ?

How much is a two year licence ?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Sounds like a scam to me.

Should have gone to the Driving Office in Lefkosa not the tax office.

1st time you apply you have to go to the office in Lefkosa. Some driving schools do this for you and charge a fee In the renewal office in Girne(recently moved to behind the public hospital)the charges for the licences were pinned on the wall.Ask to see the fees if you can't see them up on the wall. Then you can see how much more you were charged by the driving school for doing it for you. When I did mine it was 50 tl more but now I just do it at the local office in Girne.Sorry can't remember how much it was.

tootie,

geta trnc licence, i had uk driving licence, with kocan of the car in my name and when i was involved in a car crash, was told that the uk licence, is not enough, and my insurance was nul and void, it cost me a 290ytl fine + 4000ytl to pay for repairs to other vehicle + 600ytl for my own car, the fine alone cost more than the driving licence so do tha maths in makes sence and the longer the licence the cheaper it become's.

i paid 275ytl for a 5yr licence, at the school of motoring near the police station as the police officer reconmended them, they charged me 50ytl to do all the paper/leg work, it would have cost me more to take time off work.

hope this helps.
