RE msg 1, dan3006: (...) are there any english/irish bars around kyreina towards esentepe (...)

=> Before you start looking for what we do not need in TRNC (FYI: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) I suggest you learn how to spell Kyrenia (one of the many old names of a city which is nowadays called Girne in Turkish) and Esentepe (any idea what that means in English?). Just a suggestion.

Dan, go to the bottom of the main forums page if you are logged on or the top if you are not and click on the Esentepe link, it might not show you which is english/irish but you should be able to find some info on bars in Esentepe.

Hope this might help, and as for giving (not forcing) opinions, if we didn't do that, we would have nothing to do.

I think you will find it more enjoyable to get to know the Turkish Cypriot way of life and make use of their restaurants/bars. The TRNC is relatively unspoilt in comparison to other Mediterranean countries so your choice of bars will be at best scarce and at worst non existent.

Ignoarance at its highest. Just unbelievable most of the comments. Couldn't agree with you more Dan3006.

The only English bars i know in and around Esentepe are Kings and further down in Tatlisu you have Stevie's.

Kings has live music now and again. There are no Irish bars, there used to be one in Kyrenia, if thats how you spell it (pillac) back in 97 called Shenanigans and was probably one of the most popular bars in the old harbour, unfortunatly Ted has long since gone.

This is a debating forum and everyone has the right to reply within the rules of the forum so to keep this debate going which comments do you find unbelievable?

Dan3006, In addition to those mentioned by Cyprusjoker you might want to try Zerdalis (spelling?) in Esentepe on a Wednesday night, local Cypriot bar but music, (free) wine and as much life about it as most Irish bars.

Dan,

You seem to have missed most people's point who do not want 'segregated' bars etc in NC.

Do you want ro replicate 'real' English or Irish bars, or do you want Linekers (ala Canaries) or Kity O'Shea's (everywhere). Many bars and restaurants in NC are managed or staffed by Brits (not just English) and are fine welcoming establishments with good company and even better beer.

Why would you want to bring Torremolinos or Ayia Napa to NC? It is the absence of tat that makes the place as special as it is.

PS I am NOT a local.

Message 20 yes you are so right, some people on here delight in finding someone to argue with, and don't answer genuine questions.

But that's my view.

Ironically the last 4 1/2 words written in the last post are the reason some find to have the debates and arguements. I know because I have been in quite a few of them and a very clever lady pointed out to me that it is stupid to argue on a computer because you understand what is written by the way you read it, probably not the way they wrote it.

Face to face you, get expressions, tones and gestures that help you understand it was light hearted or serious. You don't get that on a computer screen.

There have been some explanations about the comments, valid and understandable, dan seems to have accepted it however you guys have taken over the reigns and are making it a complaining session or maybe you are being sarcastic. It is hard for me to tell by reading.

I hope you understand my point, it is easy to change from being a supporting bystander to a provocateur.

Forgive me, I may have lost the plot here, I fail to see why people come to TRNC with it`s way of life, and look for Irish bars,Sky t.v,fish chips and mushy peas, when the local food ,drink and culture are superb in itself.

Why shouldnt Dan be able to drink in an Irish Bar if he wants. What all this nonsence about drinking in traditional bars .

What bars? Most of the ones I go into are the same as anywhere else in the Medi, cafes that sell food and beer with tables outside.Just because you can get a Kebap with your lager doesnt make them heritage centres.

As for this notion that an Irish bar or a Geordie Bar is going to change the unspoilt nature of the place, but thousands of unfinshed holiday homes and apartmernt blocks combined with huge holiday home sites ,has not, doesnt stand up to scrutiny.Talking in the past.

Driven down Esentepe and beyond recenctly,Unspoilt, yeah right.! Cant see that Irish Pubs down that way could have any more of a negative impact.

Enjoy yourself Dan , like you I just want a good drink in pleasant company wherever in the world I am. .By one in the morning you dont know where you are anyway. Plenty of good bars ,might bump into you one night ,literally.

Cheers!

Dan, if it's the Guinness you miss, there are places that sell it.
