Would be nice to see some English acts,also turkish,but i think the well known turkish acts cost a fortune and on these nights drinks need to be a little extra,i agree and understand,some do not.



Some nice english tribute bands or singers,a bit like the amy winehouse deniz had back in the winter time indoors.



Drink prices here on the island amanda make a big diffrence to whether people will come or wont,2 or 3 TL does make a big diffrence to some folk,sad as it is after so much investment been spent at shayna and some money gotta come back some way,people here at present are watching the pennies with alot loseing 50 to 70% of there income in the last 18months with bank interest rates falling to a lower rate.



I hope my reply will start the ball rolling and youll get some insight as to what people might want and what they are thinking.

the Newly Refurbıshed Shayna Beach club ıs ın Catalkoy. You drıve on the maın road towards catalkoy and take a turnıng before Happy Valley Resturant, we have a large sıgn on the Maın road, and follow the sıgns towards the sea.



Entrance to the beach ıs 7.5tl and free for chıldren under the age of ten.



we have three dıfferent sectıon a decked area, sandy beach and a grassed sectıon for you comfort.

Sounds great until i read the charge of 7.5 ytl to use the beach, if i go with my family which totals 5 i would expect to spend the whole day there and probably spend around £100 on food,drinks and ice cream during the course of the day. Therefore on principal would i pay to use the facilities NO

Maybe a refundable ticket would be a good idea.

If you get a ticket for every 7.5tl to use the beach then if you but drinks or food to the value of, you get the 7.5tl refunded?

Personally,i prefer a natural, free beach to a full facility commercial beach any day...no crowd,no bar,no shower,no loud music....maybe not so sandy as the commercial beaches,(i don't mind pebble beaches) but sparkling clean water to swim.

Every weekend i load my car with my umbrellas,cold box with drinks and sandwiches and drive 20-30 mins to one of these natural FREE beaches to enjoy my day.



I wouldn't go to one of these commercial beaches even if i was offered money on top.

Living in Catalkoy it is important to me that Shayna succeeds, and I,m sure it will because Deniz listens to people. And I have to say the refurbishment is unbelievably good, the opening night was spectacular. But here are a couple of things I think would bring in the Brits, dont get me wrong I want this wonderful place to be used by both locals and Brits, but as we all know we all have our idea,s of a good night out.

1/ Advertise well in advance in Cyprus Today & Star of upcoming nights

I recieve texts stating what is on, but unfortunately they are in Turkish ( and yes I know I should learn Turkish ) could we please have them in English

2/ Having Tony as the second Chef was obviously good for Shayna, is it possible to have a British Chef alongside the Local one again.

3/ Brits love a good 60,s 70,s 80,s Disco, its something to do with the age group of most of us here,DJ Mike at the Mountain View Hotel packs them in once a month.

4/ For tourists I would suggest a night like at the Tree of Idleness on Saturdays, with local singers, belly dancer and full meze.

5/ More nights like the upcoming Manhattans night for the 22nd september.

6/ Keep the drinks prices as low as is possible.

Sorry one more thing, its a couple of weeks since I went on the beach, so you might well have cured this by now, but walking into the water from the beach was extremely difficult due to stones just in the water, and the sand and water did need a clean.



Dont I go on, this must be the wife,s habits rubbing off on me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Display the menu outside as i think its a legal requirement any way.It puts some people off not being able to check it out first before they come in. Also make it clear if the lovely sofa area is open to everyone. As you know last night at 10 only 4 customers but we waited a long time for our drinks order.

Hi Amanda- the current system of serving drinks to diners using drinks waiters as 'runners', ferrying trays of drinks into the general vicinity of one's table where they then await the table's waiter or waitress to identify which drinks are for which table, leads to confusion and needs to be improved. Can the drinks waiters not be trained to take an order and deliver it to the table? My wife and I witnessed a child of no more than eight years being given a gin and tonic instead of the lemonade she had ordered and feel sure this arose as a result of the chaotic system.



We are great fans of Shayna and wish you well in your newjob.

Great venue the refurb was done really well and thankfully you have had the sense not to price the beach too high, we use it regulary and wish it had been finished a couple of weeks earlier when we had lots of visitors. Hi Amanda, spoke at the bar the other night, well i have 8 grandchildren who would love to come with us and my daughter and husband for a day at the beach, i always thought that all, bar two beaches in the TRNC, are free to access, so why are you charging, or is it for sunbeds and umbrellers please make this clear, as ten people like my family could not use that beach 10x 7.5 then 10x drinks at say 6 each think this is for a beer would be 135ytl for one drink each, a bit much for my pocket i see nothing wrong with charging for sunbeds if you want them,but also not to pay if you do not ,

ıt was nıce to meet you agaın, I have dıscussed the entrance fees wıth my Bosses and as you know ıf you have been to Shayna Beach recentley they have spent allot of money makıng the beach and facılıtıes a fantastıc place for you, your famıly and frıends to enjoy. consıderıng our competıtıon and the prıces they are chargeıng ( we have obvıously compared prıces) our beach entrance fee ıs more than reasonable.

I do understand havıng a famıly wıth fıve people that a day at the beach can be very expensıve and that ıs why we have ıntroduced the membershıp cards.

I wıll lıst the prıces agaın for you. these prıces ınclude free entrance to the beach and all facılıtıes:-

15 days for two people 120 tl

1 month for two people 200 tl

for the whole season 350 tl

Hi Amanda,

Good idea about the membership cards, allowing customers to pay in advance for their entrance which gives them a discount is certainly attractive. Just a thought though. Especially for visitors to the country who may be wanting to get out and about to see some of the island, besides spending some relaxing time by the lovely beach and area around Shayna, can you perhaps provide a book of tickets or vouchers to give to members (eg, 15 for those who paid for 15 days, 30 for those who paid for a month), then they just tear off a ticket each time they visit. That way customers won't feel that they have to visit for 15 consecutive days in a row to get the best out of their membership and someone visiting for say 1 month can choose which 15 days to visit throughout the month. Just a thought...

Just thinking through my suggestion again, I realise it won't be in Shayna's interest to give customers the option of a 15 day 'pass' which they could take 12 months to use up so perhaps the above suggestions could be implemented with say 3 months expiry on the membership for 15 days, 4 months for 1 month and (sorry, don't know when is the 'whole season'?), perhaps 9 months for the 'season' pass?

Nice to meet you tonight Amanda, thank you for taking time out to speak to us, glad to see you are so proactive. We had a fabulous meal, entertainment was great, just had to chase the waiter a few times, but they were busy and it didn't spoil our evening. One small thought when we visit in the day time the area in front of the stage is clear so we assumed it would be clear when the show was on for dancing. Unfortunately it had been filled with tables and there was no real dance floor left for those who wished to dance to some very good music. We noticed the actual restraunt area was empty so perhaps the dance floor area in front of the stage could have been left and the restraunt area utilised? Other than that thank you for a fab night,my wife said best night out she's had this year, even better than the Rocks "Rat Pack" night, so you made her birthday. Bring on Snakes!

I have just been ınformed that the cards for the membershıp have the dates prınted on them. so for example ıf you purchase a membershıp card on the 1st of the month for fıfteen days then on the 16th of the month the membershıp card would expıre.

As for the charges for using the beach facilities, 7.5 TL is very reasonable when compared to anywhere else this end, for all the wingers saying beaches are free, go use the free beaches and traypse through all the rubbish to get there, taking your beds and brollies with you. As my wife says beaches are free in the UK but you pay an arm and a leg to park!!!

Halffull the point i was trying to make ,is that charging for entry to a beach in the TRNC is illegal i belive, free access is your right, take it or lose it , i see nothing wrong with charging for sun beds etc but freedom of choice sit on towel on the sand or pay for bed the way its going we are losing beaches or will they just be for the few well heeled, with walls around them like escape .to keep the real people OUT

Surely this is something the 'Cyprus Today' & 'Star' journalist should 'get their teeth into'.



Any beach should be 'public domain' and nobody, tourist, expat., or local, should be cajoled into paying for facilities that they have no intention of using!



That, and lack of, or denial of access to so many beautiful, unspoilt beaches because these are in military restricted areas - so many in and around Girne - is giving TRNC ashocking reputation.



For example: Tourists staying at the 'Ship Inn' take the first road [Mehmet Muzaffer Sokak] they see that they think is leading to a beach - after they've trudged approx. 300 metres to the bottom of the road, they discover that they're confronted by a soldier with a machine gun - nice!



How many have told us: 'TRNC - never again!'



And who can blame them, it must be asked?

On a Wednesday Evening the drinks at the bar are the same prices as the resturant when Ediz Onay Jazz band is playing. So please come along and join us for the evening and sit on our comfortable seating area.

Can you have a word with your bar staff and give them a copy of these prices as they seem to charge what they like until we query it!

On our last visit only 2 weeks ago they tried to charge us 10tl for a 33cl bottle of effes, where as you are now advertising a 50cl for 10tl. Needless to say we didnt pay what they were asking for, this needs to get sorted pretty quick as the only gripe Brits have is the prices charged and the way the staff try and rip us off all the time. Otherwise you will loose a lot of business. I await you comment. Michelle

I had a meeting with Denis today about the prices of the bar and the complaints from our English Customers. He was quiet upset and that is why he has asked me to publish the prices of drinks at our Resturant and our Night Club. so people are aware that our prices are not high for one and that there is a difference when you dine with us as to when you just use the night club after 23.00 hours.

Amanda we met the other night, my daughter and husband are here on holiday. They went down to the beach for the day. Decking area all reserved, although tables and loungers not taken up. Had lunch burger (smallest possible burger in bun) and 6 frozen chips 15tl, frozen chips in a country that grows the finest potatoes, no go for a venue like yours. Also drink prices need to come down a little. Most people are on a budget, and do not like to be over charged.

Hi scruffdog - we have visited Shayna on about 7 occasions in the last 3 weeks - and one of the things that impressed us was the size of the lunches - really good burger, freshly made ''real'' chips and a good crisp salad - I also have a problem with restaurants selling skinny frozen chips, but never had them at Shayna.



Overall I'm really impressed with Shayna - the staff who spend all day walking round sun beds serving food and drink are all very friendly and the food is good. I do have a slight problem with charging for children over 10 - when mine tend to spend all their time diving off the board and on the floating raft.



And Amanda is was good chatting with you on Wednesday afternoon, while I was having a coffee at the bar waiting for my two to finish chatting with their friends! - I wish you every success with your new job.

Hı thank you for your comments, I assure you that ın our maın resturant we do not serve our customers frozen chıps. They are cyprus chıps whıch are chunky chıps cooked ın the oven. The beach area ıs a fast food area, and yes you are correct we do serve frozen chıps as do many fast food resturants on the ısland. I am very concerned about the quantıty, 6 chıps ıs not acceptable. I wıll also dıscuss wıth the resturant manager the sıze of the burgers served.

thank you for your comments, You must have choosen chunky cyprus chıps wıth your meal, I am pleased you were happy wıth the meals and the sıze of the portıons.



Our customers do not have to eat of the Beach Snack menu or eat downstaırs ın the beach area, they are welcome to eat ın the outsıde resturant on the upper deckıng area, where you can choose from our daytıme menu whıch ınclude a varıety of salads, full Meze or lıght snacks.
