Take a few minutes of your precious time to watch this, perhaps you'll think twice about speeding...!

Cypriot drivers need to be taught above all else about the dangers of overtaking blind. I'd say that most of the deaths in NC not attributed to drunk driving are mostly due to NC drivers (almost always male) who decide that overtaking the car in front of them is worth the risk of death to gain 20 meters on a drive. I am a foreigner married to an NC citizen, and we have both sworn that we will never let her brother drive our car again because he risks life and limb to overtake one car which will get him to his destination several seconds quicker. Look at the most recent cyprus today, which has a story about a local who died a terrible death burning in his car because he tried to overtake someone and ran straight into a lorry. The only solution is to make all roads 4 lanes or vastly improve driver's education.

Hi DD,

That video should be put on the TV between all films, soaps etc. 24/7 That way it will open peoples eyes, and for one moment in their life, should stop them enjoying the film etc and make them look at the way they drive. If it comes anywere near that ,then they want --------. pitty I can not say what I feel.

DD when you saw that it must have brought back some feelings of injustice.

mahdel - couldn't agree with you more. The standard of driving, both North and South is appalling. I have held a British driving licence for well over 40 years and I would never drive in Cyprus, North or South.

I have been driving in the US since I was 16. All I had to do to get a license here was to present my legal US license and pay 300 ytl for several years licensure. In contrast, when I lived and worked in the UK I had to pass several theoretical tests and a practical driving test to be able to drive legally. I wholeheartedly endorse the UK's version, which ensures that anyone driving in the country at least knows how to negotiate a roundabout.

I read about a car accident DAILY in the TRNC, even if they showed this on tv constantly, I dont think it would make any difference.

Most of the reasons given are "they lost control of the vehicle". check the Kibris paper, you will see front page , almost every day. I have never seen a place that has so many accidents..

Somethings not right....

I dont like to look at these things but i did..sorry its horrendous and it made me think about my poor daughter because as someone on a mission to end his life just walked out in front of her car. and after two years next month she has to attend the inquest..this brings it all back for her and his poor family too..Yes the roads here are a death trap...Please put all mobile phone into the back of your cars and do not.please do not answer them....remember a phone call can WAIT....please make whoever calls you WAIT..it saves lives..

Message 22, that is one of the best road safety videos out there, very well done and effective to a degree.

Its nothing brutal , safe to watch, please watch it. It takes 30 seconds...It could save your life..

What an unbelievably disturbing but powerful video. Turbo, I disagree that it wouldn't make it difference.

If anyone knows the accident prevention people here I would suggest exactly what has been suggested, that it gets shown regularly on local TV. Even if by seeing it just 1 person thinks twice it would be worth it.

I know a least 6 of these vidoe's are from New Zealand, we have a very powerful road satfey campaine that doesn't mince words, these adverts are played at peak times on the tv, as NZ has one of the highest road tolls per head of population in the world. They have been making these videos for the past 20 years, some have actually had me in tears. As you can see alot are aimed at the middle aged, middle class. as this group is one of the worst affenders. The Saying goes at home and is on Billboards every where SPEED KILLS!! and IF YOU DRINK AND DRIVE YOU ARE A BLOODY IDIOT!!!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to possibly get this aired on the local TV channels....it may not stop people from speeding etc, but it may give them a pause for thought....and if a pause is what it takes...then i'm happy with that....for now anyway.

They should show this to anyone in the UK who is taking the driving test and also to people who are attending drink-drive, speeding seminars.

i'm sure this is gonna upset a lot of you but......................if you need to see something like this ( real or not) to make you drive safely then you shouldn't really be allowed out on your own !

msg 31...

If we lived in an ideal world this sort of recording would not be necessary. However...this is not an ideal world (or country) therefore hard core statements of this sort need to be made and listened to....and if necessary forced into people living rooms! How else do you propose to stop the racers that think they are the worlds best drivers?

The worlds best drivers (in my humble opinion) are the ones paying enough attention to see the accident before it happens, and make the necessary moves to avoid it, but no one knows this....simply because the bloke/woman that averted a mile long crash, is the only one on life support...!!!

not having a go, just seeing it from a different perspective....

when we first moved here we decided to drive the mountain road and set a digi cam up (safely) inside the car, on the way back lapta to catalkoy we kept the camera running............you can guess what we recorded, all the usual (for here) stuff including a copper in full uniform on a moped , no helmet, little girl on lap AND on his mobile (i kid you not). We were so affected by it all i made copies and sent them to police ( chief of) , several gov ministers and a few prominant doctors...............result................nothing !!!

forgive me for being pessimistic.

To message 26, I really wish I could say that it would make a difference, but I think you have all seen how the young kids drive, overtaking on bends at high speeds, they just dont think that it could happen to them, they also don't think that their actions are endangering others,

I have seen too many crazy kids showing off to their girlfriends or passengers without a thought for their safety.

Just look in the Kibris paper , there is a crash or two DAILY..You would think that just seeing the accidents would make them think twice. They even put smashed up cars on the side of the highway to give them food for thought.

Showing it on local tv would be a good start and like you said if one life is saved it would be worth it.
