The issue is not with the content as almost anything you write about is based on something real which is probably worse than what you are commenting on. The issue is with the people who get offended by the comment or the content of the post, some people get IMO easily offended, as an example I will use bonnie and No1's joke, she did not find it humourous and requested it be removed, there was no complaint about my joke above No1's which had very similar inuendo to it. You can't please every poster all the time, in fact I find it hard to please any poster anytime. If it says its a joke and it sounds like a joke then it probably is a joke and being offended just means that your sense of humour is not the same as the person who posted the comment. Paul

A RUC police inspector told me that Michael McAliskey, husband of Bernadette Devlin, set a legal precedent by becoming the first person ever to be tried and convicted for "having an offensive person on his weapon". At the time I found all those who engaged in violence totally offensive but he could not understand that.

Seeing as No 1 has conveniently (for himself that is) closed the thread that lead to this one ... and moreover before I had the opportunity to reply to his and Proger's comments, I have no option but to reply here: In message 14 on the closed thread http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/43361.asp Proger wrote "She has all ready read it so deleting it will not take it backsies". It is immaterial as to whether I have read it or not - Amongst us in our communities there are often individuals who can easily be influenced by things they see and hear. Take for example, Michael Ryan - affected to such a degree by Rambo films etc, he thought he was acceptable to do what he did in Hungerford. There are other vulnerable people that on reading such jokes as No 1's, will think it is the norm to hit ones wife in the face. In the same message (14) Proger wrote that I was "the only person to be offended by it (the 'joke')". Was I ? -Read the first few messages on that joke thread again

Again refering to comments made about me on the now closed thread ; http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/43361.asp In message 10 of that thread Proger wrote that my "sensibilities are so high". Thank you so much Proger - You mean you admire my "intellectual perception" and my "mental or emotional responsiveness toward something, such as the feelings of another." - Oh, you are a sweety Proger, but I'm already married Re : http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sensibilities

Bonnie I think you may be winding us up but anyway......... I think that you may be a little bit over-sensitive and to use Michael Ryan as an example is rather crass and inaccurate. Ryan was a loner who as a child was bullied. A low achiever, he had self esteem issues and in order to address these took an unhealthy interest in weapons and militaria. He was also adversely affected by the death of his father. There are also questions over the relationship that he had with his mother with many claiming that she spoilt him to a ridiculous extent (she would later become one of his victims). I would suggest that a combination of all these events rather than watching a Rambo film led him to commit the dreadful acts that he did. As for the reading of a joke by a 'vulnerable' person possibly leading them to believe that hitting your wife is the norm I think is a bit of a 'stretch'. Just my opinion Paul Just my opinion of course.

Re ; messages 20 and 22 Jock wrote "me think's this is a wind up...." and Friendishpaul wrote "I think you may be winding us up" Wind-up or not, I truly feel No 1 and Proger's "jokes" on http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/40242.asp were inappropriate for the reasons given in message 13 of this thread ... and No 1, as a mod, should have known better. "Jet skis ... dirty and dangerous things ..." - Don't we just love a bit of alliteration, Proger ?

With so many bad things in this world I am grateful to all of those who post humour no matter how sensitive the subject as that is how many best deal with these subjects. I do not want to feel that I need to get qualifications in psychiatry so that I can comprehend the observations of those who think they are so qualified. The fact that I insist that my Wildebeest (bless her) sleeps under the bed because I think she is a little potty may mean I am eccentric but not necessarily insensitive or mentally challenged. When something is a bit near the knuckle I like Jock 1's response which is often one word "filth". Makes me laugh, not wonder whether or not it is a joking matter.

Maybe the answer to this is that when posting a joke that might be considered offensive, the first words of text should read: "Please do not read any further if easily offended" You can then leave a few lines between the warning and the start of the joke. Hopefully this would meet the requirements of our more 'sensitive' members Paul

Bonnie There is no winning is there ??? I would hope that any child who would feel the need to access C44 would be supervised by a responsible adult. If not supervised and curious, then a child could find much, much worse on the internet. I would guess that maybe you are one of the people who campaigned to get the Noddy books banned because they were detrimental to those who were over endowed in the lughole (ear) department // Go on, admit it, this is a wind up Paul

IMO, any adult material posted should be posted with a heading saying as such, its what I;ve now started to do with adult jokes...as long as thats posted anyone likely to be offended simply p*** off and not read the thread Next, Whats offensive, again IMO, it can be argued jokes aiming fun at someone elses plight can be deemed offensive, e.g. Flood victims those dying at the moment in Pakistan to make fun at their expense, victims of 9/11...may would argue jokes aimed at victims of the gas chambers in Natzi Germany...etc....

bonnie ref 36, glad I could be of assistance in your merryment although I am not sure when I got wound up of course me writing and you reading could be understood differently. Sorry I couldn't keep the laughter you were obviously having about me going but I unfortunately had to do some work, it does interfere with my personal life so. I am glad to hear that you were just playing though, I really was worried for your mental stability if you get this offended to people having fun on Personal Water Craft or even telling jokes. Not sure I follow this comment though "Jet skis ... dirty and dangerous things ..." - Don't we just love a bit of alliteration, Proger ? Anyway, have fun bonnie, I'll just stay away from your far superior intellect from now on, your'e more than a match for me. Paul (the gullible one)

| bonnie, now I am really worried about your mental stability, the only reason I was trying to phrase my comments carefully was that I believed you to be a woman, now I just think you are strange but that's just me. Funny thing is about the jokes that you only mentioned Bill's until I raised the point about mine having the same inuendo and Bill deleting his, maybe I would have realised it was a wind up at that point if I had been online, maybe not. After all, you did such a good job of making me believe you were a tree hugging, offended woman that I fell for it hook, line and sinker. Well played, just wish I had known it was a game, it is much more fun when both sides no it is for fun. Maybe you are just a little too effeminate for me to go head to head with, I should stick to argueing with big burly men in bars although for me it would be safer to argue with small men as I don't handle embarassment well. | A man walks up to a woman in his office and tells her that her hair smells nice. The woman immediately goes into her supervisor's office and tells him that she wants to file a sexual harassment suit and explains why. The supervisor is puzzled by this and says, "What's wrong with the coworker telling you your hair smells nice?" The woman replies, "He's a midget." |

No guys ... the reason I "have gone all quiet" is because my (female) partner got stroppy with me for being on the computer "all day" :-( By the way, having a female partner doesn't mean that I don't think you're attractive man Paul ... and you never know, I might be bisexual ... xxx ...

That could work, I am not a bisexual myself of course, I would only be willing to have a relationship with one, that way I couldn't be accused of being gay, only half gay half of the time which is really only a little bit gay, don't you think. Anyway, how did your partner know you were on the computer all day, did you unchain them from the ironing board ? ))
